I would love to be able to code some simple AI's - and perhaps even have some form of challenge or competition. If we had a variety of Ai's for different factions that would give a feeling of personality to the factionsmuch quicker.

Or even just have a +/- to the chance of other techs being available if you research nature magic you get a - chance to research fire magic, but a + chance to more nature magic (cumulative based on certain techs - perhaps even discount to research costs) That combined with multiple tech requirements could lead to a very interesting tech experience e.g. Walls need either Basic construction OR Earth magic Forge steel weapons need either Blacksmith OR Fire Magic</

This was always the case, but it isn't part of the city building queue - it gets built on its own in parallel with the city buildings (kind of like a worker building a mine while the city is building a granary in Civ - you don't see the mine in the city build queue). Therefore the display is correct, it is just not obvious what is going on.

I would settle for a reworking/updating of any of the following games Populous II Dungeon Master (probably dungeon keeper as well) Atlantis PBEM (with decent modding support/flexible structure and a proper user interface, and AI so you can run as a single player game) Themepark Virus - the old Acorn Achemedies game What I really want is a X3/capitalism II cross over. You run corporations with trade/logistics the primary focus but

Being Human doesn't even make it on to mainstream TV channels here (shown on BBC3), but thought it might be worth a watch for the sort of people who frequent this sort of site. Seems we get a lot of imports from the US (CSI, House, Big bang theory being the ones I watch most often) Its nice to see some of the better programmes from the UK making it over. most of the rest of the stuff is either soaps, game shows, reality shows, which is pretty much all rubbish, or stuff that

Merlin is what my 10 year old son watches between series of Dr Who. I like Dr Who - Merlin not so much - although certain episodes (particularly the one with the fisher king) were actually quite good. you guys get Spooks over there? "Being Human"?

I hope that Kael was simply stressed and threwed darts or tossed a coin to select five of'em cause I for one do not approve of these five....
Brick and mortar stores could adapt to be more of a cultural gathering place. That is one way to add value to their image. Instead of turning over employees like rolls of toilet paper because they didn't meet high end quotas for magazine subscriptions and pre-orders, for example, Gamestop could try to integrate some social stuff into their store. Host tournaments for popular games, foster the creation of local game leagues

Its actually the only smart move for Gamestop. Why are thier staff so poorly treated, and poorly paid, and margins so high - because they can't make the business work any other way. In the UK we have both Waterstones (book seller) and HMV (music and computer games retailer) that are under constant pressure to reform. Why? because everyone goes to Amazon for these types of items these days. The costs for bricks and mortar stores staff etc are huge compared wit
Quoting RFHolloway, reply 48 would actually be better if this reduced initiative and defense I'd hesitate to include any way of ever reducing an enemy's initiative. Keep in mind he needs initiative to take any action; if you can take away enough of his initiative often enough, there's the possibility of locking an enemy down such that they never get to act, which just isn't fun for anyone involved.
Combat Speed- In FE on each combat tick all units get to add their combat speed to their initiative. When they get to 100 initiative they get an action (this is all behind the scenes, in game players simply see a queue of units in the order they get actions). The higher the combat speed the more frequently the unit gets to act, and it allows us to be more granular about creature speed. The base speed is 12, but weapons can affect speed so that a unit with a dagger will get more (ie: if

Atlantis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantis_PbeM had a really simple way of issuing orders to units which could automate them. Perhaps some way to combine this in would lead to a "first contact" type space exploration and building game. It would still be good to rewrite atlantis so it was more easily modable and ran on a sensible platform, and had a reasonable user interface and then do a total conve

The key difficulty around this is the evaluation of the ships you are making. If you are selling them coming up with a suitable pricing model will be difficult, (you want to make cool ships but the boring ones sell much better). The sims was originally a house designer - they only originally put the people in so that you could evaluate the houses. Building ships would be similar. Now thats an idea "Sims in Spaaaaace!"

I think the gap is actually in the $20 to $30 range (£15 to £20) this is now filled with reissues of past games - there may be scope - particularly on a digital platform to play at this price point - popcap do this quite well. games have more depth & polish than Angry birds, but not the high end graphics of the AAA.
So instead of making a skill system that player are planning out and have long term goals. We have a skill system that makes the moment of levelup as fun as possible. Then it can be forgotten as the player gets back to the main game (which isn't about leveling character X, unlike a RPG). So for us, random skills that aren't perfectly balanced are more fun.
But its got to be as least as an exc

So for example we could do a trait called "Brave Sir Robin" which when the units hitpoints were less than the 25 percentile trippled his move and reduced his attack to zero?

153 Replies 256,216 Views
Yeah, traits can require other traits so you can create skill trees if you want. We do that with some abilities now.
other traits plural? - that would be good (and do something similar for tech as well....)
