i haven't played in quite a while (since civ 5 release in fact...) but here are my two cents: the number one thing I like about elemental is the blend of RPG and 4X. I like that I have a physical presence in the game world. I would like to see Dynasty developed much further, to create long political narratives. I also like the way that cities grow, compared to civ where they are just a stationary tile, in elemental you really build them up yoursel

There is a subtle difference between beach and cliff on the cloth map, but I definitely agree it should be made more prominent. At the moment, beaches are smooth, straight lines instead of scraggly like cliffs and stick in or out a little bit. They look a bit like brackets. )
I definitely think there should be a succession feature. Not only would it solve the magical disappearing kingdoms (which to me is a game breaker) but it would make the game narratives more interesting. And to me, the idea of a never-ending game is actually quite appealing, particularly if it was on a huge map with many factions whose borders changed frequently. In the event of no heirs to the throne I think the magical disappearing kingdoms should be replaced with the cities falling
Game Maker is a good place to start. Do not worry about storyboarding, or writing a story or anything like that. If you want to make a game then make a game and not a story. Come up with a system of interacting variables that you think will be fun, then make a shitty-looking prototype of that system in Game Maker. Then iterate, iterate, iterate the shit out of it until its a polished, fun system. Then , (optionally) you can make it pretty
I also have to wonder if I'm playing the same game. My first game was on the largest map size as I always play Civ on as large a map as possible, but I found it too empty and boring. I restarted on a normal size map and again things are just too slow. There is no reason for me to go to war as there is no conflict over territory. And the AI is not aggressive at all, as I said I've never been involved in a war. I'm going to restart on a small map so it becomes necessary to fight over te
I have to say, this is a pretty huge disappointment. I try not to be a negative person and I'm honestly not trying to be some whinging kid here, but as somebody said, this removes one of the Xs from the 4X genre. If I had known there was not going to be procedurally generated maps it would have drastically affected my decision to buy the game. To only find out after my purchase that a game touted as a 4X game is missing an important part is very disappointing. There is
