*nods* I purchased Elemental on the day it came out. I started playing it, and sadly discovered it was not as fun for me as I expected or hoped. Am I playing it right now? No. Do I regret buying it in the first place? No. Stardock has the courage to try out new things, bring out new stuff, not "Action Slayer 3 - The Sequeling" or "FightSim VI - The Return of the Curse of the Son of FightSim". And for supporting a game studio that has that courage, and also the courage to fail

Most excellent news! I can hardly wait for the 1.1 Patch. Despite me right now not enjoying the game quite as much as I hoped (or expected) I still feel the money was well spent - since I am certain Stardock will fix all the remaining issues as they do with magic and resources right now and turn Elemental into the great game it can - and should - be.

[quote quoting="post"] Putting aside the dead horse that the magic system for Elemental is not up to par, I have been reading several threats suggesting that they should use the magic system of MoM or AoW or others. But why? Sure it would be nice to have a solid system and it would be smart to build on the work of those who have come before, but I don't think the game is truly served by copying what has come before as much as creating a new system out of the blocks that were

Let's see... * Tactical Combat overhaul (no more 1Dn rolls for damage, attack and counterattack simultaneously - this is combat not some kind of fish slapping contest) * Quests etc. visible no matter of your current tech - if you want to take a dragon head-on with your level 1 sovereign, go ahead... * Groundwork for the Magic system overhaul. * Groundwork for the Techtree overhaul. Ceterum autem censeo, 1DN esse delendam

Ranged weapons are the only counter to the 1-hit-kill glass cannons right now. That said, I feel the entire combat system needs an overhaul badly. Ceterum autem censeo, 1DN esse delendam

I can only agree, just applying a bit of polish won't turn Elemental into the game it could (and should) be. Let me be honest - Elemental should not be a Master of Magic 2 - It should rather inject the genre with new fun ideas while evolving the existing ideas to the next level. Right now everything in the game seems to clash with everything else, some promising pieces but no overall working fun concept. What use is unit design if the choice always boils down

As I said before, don't be afraid to use the old proverb "Good artists copy, great artists steal", meaning that you take the good aspects of an existing thing or concept and them improve upon them. As Magic and tactical combat (along with its ugly cousin, unit stats) are the worst offenders right now, I can only say: it is not sign of weakness to take some proven ideas, even if they come from 16 year old games - and then improve upon them.

I am really sad Frogboy, but Elemental does not really "click" for me either. But I believe in you and the rest of the team, and once all the issues have been cleared up I think Elemental will become the topseller it could be.

I could not pre-order Elemental (due to needing to pay with Paypal) but I when I was able to to order it from the official site on the 23rd of August (one day before the official street date) I was more than happy. Today is the 5th of September and I felt it was time to look back at the last 14 days. Answering the big question - is Elemental worth buying - I would have to say: Yes, but... And this "Yes, but..." I will try to illuminate in the following sentences. For completen

Just take a leaf form MoM's tactical combat system book. It is not like you have to copy the MoM system 1-to-1 but it had quite a lot of concepts that are - and I am very sad to say that - more realistic, intuitive and fun than Elemental's current tactical combat systen. Right now the world is rules by glass cannons. Either you manage to 1-hit-kill the opponent or your unit will die. Tactical combat? Not found! I dread the moment multiplayer will enabled - both s

The question on how the rolls are done is irrelevant - no matter if it is done by rolling x D2, using Gauss, or measuring ambient temperature - the issue is that even distribution is counter-intuitive and unfun, and needs to be replaced by a better one (e.g. bell distribution). The Pastafarian Party supports this movement! (May you all be touched by His Noodly Appendage)

Thanks for the reply. I agree that rolling X times is probably a waste of processor time when you can just use a function that does that much more efficiently, but I merely wanted to explain my idea in simple terms. As I said in another post - Good artists copy, great artists steal. While the old MoM combat system has gathered a lot of dust and could be greatly improved, even a small step from the current - at least to me - unfun and unrealistic tactical combat system

A wise man one said: "Good Artists copy, Great Artists steal" Is is not meant that you should just clone any good thing - it means that you should take the bits that work well and then add to them or turn them into something new. Take the Master of Magic combat system. I hate to say it but the MoM's tactical combat system is superior when compared to Elementals. With a bell-distribution of damage (and defense) you could have a guess on how effective Unit A was against unit B.

I can only support this. Tactical Combats are also pretty flawed and unfun (having even distribution for damage and armor makes each attack a big gamble; having the attacker strike first means that "Glass Cannons" can kill Hordes of Monsters without getting a scratch). Elementan is still a rough, uncut, gem with bits of dirt clinging to it - clean it, cut it and polish it and you will have a real juwel.

[quote who="Vallu751" reply="1" id="2740424"]Seconded. MoM used this.. then on the other hand, MoM units behaved in a sensible, non-game-breaking way too, with every individual rolling for attack and defense separately. I'l like to have that back too. Of course it would require an overhaul of item stats as well, so I don't think we're going to see it happen. The good part about the Elemental system is that units are more easily comparable. A single man unit has a similar

You know the feeling - your sovereign Lord Uberkiller, supreme master of Carnage, with his +50 Sword of Slaying anything (giving him a total Attack of 90) encounters a dying Wolf (1 Attack, 2HP), swings his mighty blade and... does 1 damage, the wolf retaliates for 1 damage. WTF? While these kind of outcomes should be possible, they should be extremely unlikely, and not happen with 1:90 probability as it is right now. Similarly your Sovereign's Armor of utter Invulnerability (90 Defen

Something was bothering me about the tactical combats - and today I finally figured it out: In essence the combats boiled down to "whoever strikes first wins". My sovereign has been roaming the countryside killing everything left and right without taking a single scratch. That 20 Attack, 5 HP guy? Killed him with my 10 Attack, 10 HP Sovereign - sure he'd have turned me into minced meat if he hit me, but I hit him first and he died without resistance. So my suggestion is that t
