I don't know what to think really - I'm not finding the game fun so far, but you guys have clearly not given up and posts like these renew my confidence that you can and will turn Elemental into one of the games of the decade - I can't wait for that to happen.

I bought whilst in the beta and don't think I've played very much since then, I think I got half a game in on 1.1 before I got bored - what I find lacking is the lack of depth, both in strategic terms as well as content, lore, etc. But I still stand by the fact it has tonnes of potential, hopefully this time next year I'll be playing it regularly - as it is I reckon I've played a few hours in total since release.
The most surprising thing for me is that, on an old laptop (about 3 years now) which is prone to overheating in Windows (its a Macbook Pro Santa Rose) Elemental is nigh on unplayable, from slowdown to burning knees due to overheating, however, Civ V which is meant to be a resource hog runs fine, with no overheating and smoothly. I hope Elemental can drift to the other side of Civ V otherwise I'll never be able to play it.
To date I've probably played 10 to 20 times longer on Civ V if not more and at current status I'd give Civ 9/10 and Elemental 3/10 (Elemental is just not fun currently, I'd rather play other "broken" games that are fun even). BUT, in terms of potential love I think Civ V will lose its appeal over time and settle out as a 7.5/10 or 8/10 at a push, Elemental on the other hand could be my absolute favourite game of all time, if it hits all that I had imagined for launch it
I have to echo the feeling of this all feeling a bit rushed, I was expecting 1.1 to fix gameplay in the core game (magic/tactical battles) and then allow a little time for balancing and then each expansion to add something brand new (like forging items which has been mentioned in the past). It just worries me when all of these blur together, because frankly, the game isn't balanced now, the AI doesn't work now so how can I or any other player have confidence it wi
Is anyone opposed to simply using the master of magic system? Lets just have a pool of magical power, which can be split between regen, spell research and increasing essence, or the amount of mana spendable in one turn.
The second one (overworld spells) is precisely why we have to change to a global mana storage system rather than per unit so that we can have, big, powerful spells like that.
Brad, I think the lack of spells is a problem - can we have a thread where users suggest spells they would like to see, this way we'll get many different ideas for different elemental spells, different books, far more than you could generate at Star
Ok, here are a few of my ideas/comments for magic and the lack of longevity/epicneess which I think are the main issues Magic The elemental tress need to be different. There's nothing wrong with having a basic attack spell in each, such as firebolt, lightning bolt, but they need to be different, give lightning bolt a 10% chance to stun for one turn, give fire bolt a 5% chance to set the target on fire, give the icebolt a 10% chance to slow the t
This is what I was expecting from tactical battles, I remember seeing the teaser and getting very excited, to say that battles currently are a let-down is a bit of an understatement. :(
Ok, can I get a question about the AI and modding in general (quests, monsters, NPCs, etc) answered as I'm very concerned, Frogboy? If we mod in all of this stuff, will the AI be able to use it, so if we make a complicated quest, will the AI understand it, if we have 2 modded quests, one offering a sword of +1 and one a sword of +2 will the AI be able to value the second one more than the first and be able to take that into its considerations on the resources/time it mu
This happened to me too. Initially game was fine, then I must have done something to cause this and the issue was fixed with advanced lighting being turned off.
Just one suggestion about resources: As far as I'm aware we have materials and iron, which gives some differentiation between weapons. I assume you can also enchant weapons so they can hurt creatures that may be immune to normal weapons, or highly resistant. Is there a material like Mithril, or Adamantium, or whatever, that is rarer than Iron but can create magical weapons in themselves (i.e. without enchantments)? Looks awesome so far, by the way
Looks awesome, can't wait. Frogboy, or anyone else who can answer, do we have a fleshed out and up to date schedule for the sub-releases, i.e. 2B, 2C etc. ?
I'd love a Forgotten Realms setting, you could even have the sovereigns be the avatars of the Gods after Ao cast them out. Can you imagine playing as Mystra, or Cyric, or Kelemvor?
I'm very excited to be able to help develop what is bound to be an awesome game! Can't wait.
This, sir, was cruel. You can kindly rest in the knowledge that he won't have it until late Friday his time at best (If we do it tomorrow).
"If.." :( :s
I'm trying to use some of the great avatars from here but keep getting messages on all I try that they exceed the size requirements? :(
i will not join this cult
Don't worry, I'm sure there are many in who will in your place, me for one. I think its a great idea.
Very nice, the only thing that seems to be missing, is the ability to see beaches/cliffs on the paper style maps (which are awesome by the way). The Henge looks vitally important, but that's only if the inner coasts of each continent aren't beached up much, I guess. I really, really love how you can zoom and get a paper style map in-game, this is going to have me make a Faerun/Forgotten Realms map for definite and is an awesome feature.
Hi, I've got two laptops and a desktop and rotate through them as to which I use for various purposes, if I commit to installing on one of my laptops does this mean I have to uninstall and then reinstall on the other machine, or am I able to install the beta on both laptops or one laptop and one desktop? Thanks.
Thirded! Would be awesome to try Elemental out for the first time.
I think it looks great - personally I don't see how varying the units would particularly add to the experience for myself, I'd rather have the extra time put into more different units, or better AI, etc. One thing that is a bit concerning is how small the battlefield looks, I mean its only several "units" across, is this big enough for really tactical battles, or are units going to easily be in range of other units, no matter where they are, within a turn or two?
I've played all of the OP's games too. I really like the HOMM 3 combat system, add in a % chance to hit stat for each creature and I think its perfect.
Ah okay, thanks. :)
