Good observation and worthy suggestions. I have just one seemingly minor, yet important proposition.
Another point I want to make is "go to" order. In games like Civ, after order is issued, next turn when that unit gets to act it moves immediately.
In my opinion, "go to" units should move at the end of a turn, and not immediately when they are able to. I believe that games from "Total War" series do have it just right, for example. Typical

I tend to play everything in window mode. Beta 1 worked in window fine. After Beta 2 downloaded and installed itself, I launched it, skipped intro and went straight to menu, unchecking "full screen" and setting 1280x960 resolution (my favorite with 1280x1024 monitor, does not cover taskbar, allowing me to perform other activities). Backstory: Inbasu the Prodigy Sorceress is infamous adventurer. Inbasu goes where she want and takes what she want. But really, she is not exactly evil, just extremely egocentric. While in general Inbasu does not care about consequences of her actions, she always try to beat "bad guys", not to prey upon the weakest lot, like peaceful peasants of the land. More customization options. Lore, no matter how well done, is basically “limits” per se. While it is very nice to have some substantional lore-base in the game, so it does not become “hollow” (like Spore, I hate Spore, that game is devoid of any substance, especially gameplay), it is way better for end-users (players) to have a great instrument for fleshing their fantasies.

Backstory: Victa claims herself to be refuge princess. She is not hesitates to tell everyone who asks what she calls "simple" version of her life story. According to her statement, she is first-in-line claimant for the throne of small and remote yet powerful island-kingdom, Friania. Her signet ring seems to be the only proof of her royal heritage. Probably the most interesting fact in all this history is that no one ever heard about that Friania kingdom.
