Even -I- would agree that its heading in the right direction, with the caveat of separating attack and defense as well as adding damage types. Fire spells should not harm fire elementals any more than swords against chainmail. I understand that attack and defense will be separated, but have heard nothing on the second.

Just wait for the tactical battle mod me and Kenata are -almost- done with. We ran into problems with attack and defense multipliers, but now, thanks to Kenata's brilliance, we have them working. The goal of the mod is to attach special abilities to all of the weapons, so that they all fulfill a tactical niche.
While this thread has clearly advanced, just for the record I'd like to say that I quoted the wrong post.
[quote who="yaromir" reply="2" id="2792290"] Quoting cpl_rk, reply 1 The problem with spells like this is that the AI does not use them, hence they provide a *huge* benefit to the human player and as a result the human easily whips the AI. Teach AI to use them? I don't think it is all that difficult to make AI understand strategic nodes in its graph and try to shorten the length of travel between them. Alternatively, cr
Recently, my friend gave me Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It is fantastic. It seems simple at first, but there is so much going on with politcs, marriages, titles, etc. If you love unnecessarily complex strategy games with roleplaying and minor magical elements, I really can't recommend it enough. You are a low ranked governer and must win the three kingdoms and unite them under a single banner. You can do this with propaganda, assassinati
@Raven I did not mean to accuse you of anything. It's simply easier to read and understand how the mod is developing if you just bump the thread with updates. It's a user-friendliness issue, not a personal attack. With many different threads it becomes impossible to really see what's happening--and that is what I'm interested in. It's just easier for people to understand. I apologize if I offended you. I have crotchety t
@Raven Isn't that achieved by giving the original posts update bumps? That puts them at the top again... @Zub I'm not trolling, and I'm not the only one that shares this opinion--it's been said byh multiple people in this thread and on the SD IRC. If it was my desire to troll these boards, this would probably be the most pathetic and passive-aggressive attempt in the history of the internet. "Ahem. Dear Stardock b
My thoughts exactly, Goon. There's exposure and there's saturation... @Raven Yeah, I know how much time and work is required for large modding projects. Just bear in mind that 90% of them break up before release. Stick with it and don't become one of those! I've been involved in a couple of those projects, and was always the last man standing, and it sucks. Seems like you've got an eager group though. Just don't push developme

Looks great, but can we keep the Dragonlance mod updates in one or two threads? Like, one for graphics updates and one for general discussion. I'm highly anticipating this mod... I need more fantasy in my fantasy TBS!
@ Tesla Yeah, I intentionally left the target of 'unfortunately' ambiguous there. In truth, I think they are both great examples of the extreme ends of the game complexity spectrum. Whether or not this is a good or a bad thing depends entirely on the player.
ROTK has about a million times the complexity and depth unfortunately.
Err, to increase your arcane research speed, you need more arcane research points. There's no trick to it. Each spell has a required number of accumulated arcane research to unlock, and every turn your total research is subtracted from that number. You increase arcane research with city improvements, world tile improvements like arcane temples, and there is also a sovereign trait that provides a +1 bonus.
One of our desktops has a Geforce 9800 GTX in it. Runs everything out today on ultra max settings (although my monitor only does 1280x1024). It's a real bargain these days as well.
It's 100% safe to say that Elemental had nothing to do with this. Three years of gaming is actually really good for a laptop. They tend to burn out long before that if you're using them for advanced gaming, unless it is a laptop designed specifically for that purpose. These tend to be much larger and have much more sophisticated/optimized cooling systems, because the major issue with laptop life span is heat. Sounds like you pushed yours pretty hard for a number of yea
@Gaelic The interface in the video you linked is not the same as the screenshot pictured. Also: developers confirmed that it was a mock-up.
Ummm, mock-up art has never really been a standby of anything other than promotion/previews in the PC games industry. Doctored photos enhancing the textures, colour enhancement, and careful setup of in-game situations, however, is common. I think that's what you're mistaking for mock-ups. A mock-up is something created in Photoshop as a 'prototypical' interface; what the developer envisions a game to eventually be. It's not any more functional or interactive than a LOL
Well, the answer he wants is probably 'yes.' Why he wants an answer from someone more 'official' than the CEO of Stardock is beyond me. But I do agree that MOCKUP ART should not have been put on the box. It's misleading.
I was more referring to the other piece of promo art that made it into this thread.
Why do people keep insisting that those promos are screenshots? They are MOCUPS. Meaning, they were created by an artist as a still image, an imagining of an end product. Now, its one thing to release mockups while the game is in active development, but to include them on the box of the finished product leads consumers to believe that those are actual in-game screenshots. Its a bit sleezy and misleading.
Stardock does want their AI to cheat. It's already cheating hardcore in ridiculous. Double resources, 10x starting goods, etc. Heck, I have mine set to 10x economy and 20x starting goods. Its just too dumb to put up any resistance.
Ohhhhhhh, don't get me started on the XML interpretation, especially [Calculate]. Do. Not. Get. Me. Started.
Good work. And here I was thinking that Elemental was just poorly documented, not that the game outright lies to you.
There is no enchantment management in the game. Enchantments target whatever unit is first in line. You need to waste movement points and time separating targets from their stack and then enchanting your unit. If you ever want to cancel that enchantment, you just cancel enchantments randomly and hope you get the right one. It is a nightmare.
ahahaha, me and Kryo both replied at the same time! I suppose I guessed right!
