Mhm maybe i've overlooked it but what's with the problem of upgrading the size of a unit? In my last game i could train a unit consisting of 3 soldiers which cost me a lot of crystal and metal but when i upgrade them, so they contain 6 people it will only cost some gold and not even that much. So you can save half of their ressource cost. Hopefully my point is understandable because english isn't my main language.
