It seems to me that Shafer really had his hands tied and that the direction of Civ V had already been laid out by the Big Suits who paid him to not disobey. That's what I got out of his Gamasutra interview anyway. I am certain he was wary of the outcome long before Civ V got released. I am certain he would have lost his job if he DID "signal out"

Jon Shafer - Our teams are getting bigger now, so on Civilization V I didn’t program all the AI. Only about half. Jon Shafer - We had a combat programmer doing combat AI, and a programmer doing the AI for the workers and explorers, but I program
I agree with you dopey. Firaxis/2k has turned the civ-fans world upside down and are now very upset with Shafer because of it. Criticism from the hateful civ fans has been harsh from what I've seen, but I just hope Shafer will be able to keep his head up high and ignore the unwarranted jabs. -.-
Quoting Domicron, reply 88Civ5 is a poorly designed game. End of story. There's no argument to be had. Hopefully Shafer learned something from the experience. He's a young guy and I'm hoping he did and attributing his silence here to an NDA he probably had to sign on his way out of Firaxis. anyways peace out stardock I'll be on my merry way GOOD LUCK JONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steam owns Sid...well, with Civ V they do. lol Anyway, did anyone here read Mr Shafer's interview at gamasutra? I thought it was pretty telling about how frustrated he got while working on V with Firaxis. "Do with what you've got.." I say, Mr Shafer didn't
I don't see how Civ fanboyz couldn't be the worst. They are backed by 2k which I believe stacks the deck using shills. These people are there 24-7 to post immediately if you post a dissenting remark. Most aspire to work there, are beta testers, or other types of coders. I found one guy who was actually a beta tester there. His name is Dale. He can say whatever he wants to you in response to your post, but when you reply back even briefly it is t
Forum participation is a critical function for any developer...and as gmot just mentioned, even the CEO here takes time to keep us updated on their progress. That is "Class A" work in my book. -.-
You seem to have a remarkable sense of entitlement.
Most hard-core Civ players do. [e digicons]:D[/e] Also note, that in the time I had at the 2k forums (roughly 2 months), Mr Shafer did not make a post, and from what I noticed only 1 Firaxis dev posted one comment about some patch. A Firaxis policy, no doubt. Civ V fans there were, for the most part, very unhappy with the post-release support and overall game mechanics. No
Impulse just updated my Elemental game. Anyone have any information on this recent update? [e digicons]:dur:[/e]

If promoting viagra, cell phones and such is not allowed, why should they allow promotion (that not casual mentioning) of a game by another company? Not saying if

If I press my scroll wheel, the game minimizes and then the desktop is in view. If I press the wheel again, the game maximizes but crashes with some dx error. My mouse is kaput, I suppose, and I can't bind a different key to manipulate the map either. As a result, I now have torticollis for having the my head positioned at a constant angle while playing..and I can't get a 360-degree view of my cities or Sovereign. [e digicons]:hugm

Hmm I don't even remember my Coleco vision games. We had no computer in the home then. In fact, the first computer I had was an HP that I purchased when I moved out and got married at 26. Two years later I kept the computer but dumped the girl as she was buggy as hell. [e digicons]O:)[/e]
A couple of gamers who have the retail version of Elemental cannot update their game via Impulse. Can anyone help them out? http://forums.impulsedriven.com/403333/page/1/#2857899 [e digicons]-_-[/e]
...and I thought this thread was about a free "pirate" mod for Elemental. [e digicons]:annoyed:[/e]
When a game is unplayable, it must first be turned "on". When a game is on and unplayable, then the problem is with the person's mind, and not with the game itself. ------ Regarding the expansions, yes 1 or 2 free. [e digicons]:dur:[/e] If game was purchased before 1 Nov 2010, then you get 2 expansions. If game was purchased on or after 1 Nov 2010, but before 1 Jan 2011, then you get 1 expansion. Ok....I give in. I'm going to be adventurous tonight and update my .EXE file when I get a chance. Wish me luck!!! [e digicons]:ninja:[/e]
I think I'll wait for the next patch. I am adventurous [in the game]..lol..but when it comes to messing with game files, I get all chocked up and thus prevent myself from trying a file update. [e digicons][/e]
