Update -- after looking more at this, I think there is a high probability of a CTD whenever you click a selection while the hourglass mouse cursor is active.

Thank you. Setting the enemy AI to beginner effectively did the trick. I have never been able to finish several of the more difficult quests (std and mod) before the game ends with the death of the last enemy. Guess I could just ignore them, but it's a PITB! :-)
Just curious if such a thing is possible? Sometuimes is intreresting to just wander the map doing quests without bothering with another empire. Vox
If you end a sandbox game and start a new one -- minimap stays locked on the last minimap from the prior game. Workaround -- save, exit game to desktop, and reload.
A review this morning went up on RPGwatch.com. I think you will find it to be positive, but blunt about the launch issues.

I am trying to get an accurate picture of Elemental, but seem to find so many problems in the campaign I am concerned that I am missing something major. After 10+ hours the game seems to offer much potential, but seems very buggy in campaign mode. Current status: win-7/dual nvidia only played the campaign == no experience with MP or scenarios 800 moves (past finding the tome -- sailing the ship and exploring NW) starting city level 4
