Fallen Enchantress does have the whole Alpha Centauri-eque "hostile world" going for it. However, I come from the Age of Wonders camp and really miss the line of sight gameplay in tacticals. If Triumph is indeed coming out with AoW3 and the tactical maps are more complex (ie:changes according to city) and they fix the AI and diplomacy, I may be spending more time over there. Just being honest.

You talking about the AI not paying attention when founding cities next to Dragon Lairs of woe, death, and destruction? Yeah.. that hurts everyone. They should be more careful.

BTW, basically what I want is my own personal "Champion Pack" based off some of the more memorable characters in various DnD games I have played over the decades. It would be cool to see some of these old faces turn up in game. Other games in this genre like AoW have mods like this that add more variety and replay because you get many more varied champions (heroes). Nothing too overpowerd, but the ability to determine level and eqiptment (if any) would be nice.

So.. I take it the game itself determines traits and level as opposed to putting it in the file? I was thinking some interesting builds for my little sandbox for levels 1, 3, 5, and 9.

Is there any way to add your own custom champions to be seeded on the random map generator to be found or recruited? I have been searching the forums and have not heard anyone speak of this. A how-to would be appreciated if someone has the time to explain, if it is possible.

Something that has not been brought up yet in this thread. Let's say Elemental becomes a classic in it's genre like MoM or AoW:SM and Stardock moves on, gets merged with someone or some other thing happens (as does often in the software bussiness). Let's also say several years have passed and many still play the game, but it, like many other games from years back are unobtainable except as expensive collector's copies on ebay. In that case no issues. Try finding thes old class

But when it comes to MMOs, it will we veeeery long time till a serious leap in visuals takes place because these games' graphics are toned down on purpose to appeal to a wider audience. It will be much sooner than we think when games will be like movies we play a role in and less like games. Especcially MMOs if they reach this level of detail in graphics and can add to that making everything in the background an object that can be interacted with with it's own physics. When that happens, we will have the first of the primitive forerunners to Star Trek type holodecks. What a far cry for this geezer to think when I was shooting things on my TV screen on an

You cannot turn a Yugo into Ferrari. That said, If it works fine other than it is a bit slow on graphics applications, you can always keep the thing as a side web surfer next to a newer gaming rig when you buy or build one. I personally turned my old P3 into a Linux learning lab!

What is the difference in paying for DLC and paying a subscription for a subscription-based game like most MMOs are? Should they have just given the content out as free patch? Debatable. Should they have just made it subscription? Unlikely, alot of gamers have enough subscription games as it is. For me, I have a pretty long attention span. Games keep me entertained for months and even years on end. It takes alot to impress me to come off my cash for anything new. Dragon Age do

I am with you on this one. The old-school FRP guy in me wanted to see elves and undead and you-name-it races ala MoM or AoW. Its not a deal-breaker. But it sure would be awesome. I also agree with you that I hope the factions are more different than a coat of arms. However, this game has gotten my attention regardless. I still have a wait and see attitude on this since there isn't a whole lot out there, and I missed the opportunity for beta. (Not that i am bitter

Well, for the top 5% of players for Eve Online in 0.0 it might be a "space strategy" game. But that is debatable. Most never get that kind of power to micro. Only the CEOs and directors of the top alliances in that game play the build, conquer, diplomacy game. Other than that, as frogboy put... no... The way MMOs are set up, not every character will be a big wig with armadas of ships and worlds in the balance unlike 4x where players definately have power. Not everyone wi

I would say retail with an option do download again. I love the actual manuals and such. However, I do not want to be screwed if my CD gets scratched or lost. I should not have to buy the game again, just DL it from the company site.

The unit design seems to be a fundamental concept of what makes Elemental the game it is. So much so that the initial framework is already in this stage of beta. I doubt there will be deviation, only tweaks.

I do not think such a spell would work good with multiplayer, because who wants to force other players to replay a round. Nor do I think it would add much to the SP game, either. That said..... Why all the hate against saving/ reloading outside a non-ladder, non-multiplayer game? Sometimes, that is the best way to learn from mistakes so when "showtime" is on and you are in a clan battle or doing a SP map contest at a fansite, you will be better at tactics. I will

Tracking number of saves and restarts is not really a difficulty issue. This is more of an issue for official fansites that track players on a ladder like Civilization Fanatics Hall of Fame. In fact, C4F only accepts game saves using thier own custom mod that tracks # of times saved to participate in thier single player competitions. They call it the HoF mod and update it everytime civ4 gets patched. [b]Stardock coders may want to put a very simple # of times saved count

I am going to have to reserve comment for now on micro. I believe a good UI can alleviate alot of what made some TBS games drag especcially late game. We also do not know yet the level of comlexity Stardock is planning on going with like number of resources, number of buildings, ect. But I agree, It is one of those things that is a precarious balance. However, I think most of the playerbase would agree that it is better to err on the side of deep, intricate micro that some water
