And remember the Mint is one of those "World Wonder" type buildings. Only one allowed on the planet. So, if you want it, you gotta race for it.

Are there more recruitable units available at minor faction cities? Just curious what else is out there. And if you take over a city with a unit building that you can't use, is there a way to get rid of the building? Seems weird building a city around an ogre encampment. Little kid walks by, "What's in there ma?" "Foul ogres, honey, don't get too close" "Why are they in the city" "Well they were asked to leave, and they said no...and ate a few people...goo
So there I was, playing a Kingdom, and I see a minor faction city craving to be conquered. I've heard that conquering minor faction cities will sometimes allow you to recruit a new kind of unit. So I take an army over there and knock it out and the recruitable unit they have is an ogre, which can only be used by empire factions. Oh well. In another game, I take over another minor faction and what did they have for me...stinking ogres. So now I'm thinking maybe I should play as Empire.
A couple things might help. I have found researching warfare and logistics early definitely helps in battling AI armies. Logistics lets you group your units (like squads) and that greatly pumps up your damage output and health. The AI will do this too, so if you don't, he'll crush you. Things get pretty easy once you start recruiting squads of archers. Also, summon a few units. Early on, I get Rulgoth's Promise and the Ice Lord. The Ice Lord will kill everything. Thirdly, be s
You're going to love it solidsmooky. Give it a little time and you'll see the game is deep and rich. It's definitely expensive, but I know I've already gotten my money's worth out of it and continue to play it. Feel free to pm me if you've got any questions while you're figuring it out. And if you don't like it...give me a headstart before you come after me. :)
I won't lie to you, Dominions 3 has a steep learning curve. The game is deep. If you really love strategy war games then I really think you'll like it. My recommendation would be to start as one race and stick with them for a bit (I think Niefelheim might be a good race to start with-strong military units and decent mix of magic abilities from the start) Check out their forums too. People there are real friendly.
She's got huge...tracks of land!
Dominions 3 is a strategy gem. Very deep. Tons (i mean tons) of spells, units and items. I've had it for a long time, and it's one of those games that's on the computer to stay. There are just so many tactics you can try that it boggles the mind.
The fantasy indie game Dominions 3 comes with a hefty spiral-bound manual. Not sure how many ink cartidges I'd go through if I had to print one of those suckers on my own.
Quoting Norhg, reply 8 I haven't yet seen the resource revealing techs reveal resources outside my own influence. Is that how it's supposed to be or have I just missed those other resources? I've yet to see it reveal something outside my influence as well. Kind of disappointing if you research it early.
I just wanted to highlight this again as I
Makes sense Jinnes. Perhaps they only become visible to the person who's got the appropriate research, but they should be all over the map. (like what pizza said)
If that is the case, it seems it would make sense that this area should be available for research indefinitely. It should always be an option in the adventure tree, and when you build new cities you can research it again. I may be way off-base with that, but I'm still figuring the game out.
There are a few areas you can research under the adventure tree that show you new resources throughout the land. I'm always on the lookout for new food resources, so I research this pretty early every game. However, I'm finding that the new resources only show up in my areas of influence and no where else. So a twilight bees thing may show up around my city, but if I explore elsewhere, I'll never see another one. This has become especially troublesome when I have already researched these area
Yeah, an early sand golem is a blessing. I had one last game that made things pretty easy. Once the level three mobs came out though, it definitely needed help. Personally I like the randomness of loot. If it's supposed to be truly random, then every once in a while you should end up with something a little overpowered. If it happens all the time, then it needs a fix.
Great post Archonsod . I'm looking forward to trying out some of these things next time I play.
Nice write-up tesb. That was helpful.
These are great thoughts. It appears there are some exploits on the warfare/logistics side that are taking the fun out a bit. Hopefully this will get touched up a bit. I'm adding another question as well. Perhaps I'll put everyone's answers into a strategy guide at some point, but it may be too early for that yet. Where should I build my city? Should I only build near food resources? How would the city grow otherwise?
Love the idea about lowering equipment cost for champions and providing rare equipment (for champions only). The rare equipment of course would be very expensive. As it is now, the last place I want any champion I hire is in a fight. And I think champions should be good for a fight.
Yeah, I've been picking up on the "go for logistics first" strategy. Seems like the best way to beef up your army so they don't fold when the first mob comes knocking. I'm adding another strategy question to my original post as well. What are the best ways to increase your gildars? I find the weapons/armor are expensive. Building stacks of soldiers are expensive. How do you get the money to cover these expenses?
First you have to recruit a champion of the opposite sex. When you click on that champion and go to their available actions, you'll see an icon of a wedding ring. Click it. One of two things will happen. She'll marry you, or she'll say your reputation needs to increase and then she'll marry you. I think it's nice then you never seem to get a flat "No" or "Ugh...no".
I'm really enjoying the game but I'm wondering if I could improve on my tactics. I think it may be a good idea to open up another forum room just for strategy . If this already exists, I apologize (just couldn't find it). I've got tons of questions, such as: 1. What should I be researching first? The world has a ton of mobs and the AI can be aggressive. Should I always go for warfare first? 2. Should I build every building
Quit bitching, if you want true random maps you can delete/move the seeds in the folder and get fully random maps. But Dont complain if they are not balanced in any way shape or form.
In this case, we have a right to complain. I've been following this game for a year and took part in the beta. It was clearly stated many times that the worlds would be randomly generated. Knowing Brad's fondness for Master of Magic and the C
