Thank you All! I appreciate it!

I've been wanting to learn that technique for making the brushed metals and the cool gem looking spheres I see used in a lot of the wallpapers. Anyone know a good tutorial on the 'net some place?
How bout a tutorials section?
Vue d'Esprit by Cinema 4D - but it's not free. Yes, Blender is totally free. It might take some time to learn - or maybe not depending on yourself. XenoDreams is another and since you mentioned the fractal program, Apophysis, you might wanna give Ultra Fractal a try. (I think version 2 might be a free download) Maybe what you need is a mix of things. Many use more than one program. [Message Edited]
DesktopX looks cool. How easy is it to put flash objects into? With an ActiveX control? and if one is using objects made from flash, doesn't it present the same impact on system resources? I'm still learning Actionscript myself. Would I need to learn some vbscript or more javascript to get things working in desktopX? I do eventually plan to get back into javascript maybe after I'm done learning actionscript (since they are both based on the same language, should be natural)
I know this thread is kinda old, but there is a program called Flash Wallpaper by a company called Tenmiles http://www.tenmiles.com/flashwallpaper/ The program is fairly easy to use. I've made one desktop so far - a simple little thing with a flash digital clock, but suddenly the possibilities are limitless!
I recently read about a new product called SWF Destop ( http://www.screentime.com/ ) so I'm wondering if anyone here is or has used that program. It's $199! for a single user, which is very high in my book. Does anyone know of similar apps/components like this that are comparable?
I had heard so many bad things about Kazaa and IMesh, that I went on a search to find something else. I've been using a free prog called WinMx with good results, and no spyware! -- and it's free! http://www.winmx.com
Okay, wasn't sure about that. thanks...
I'm new here also. I'm very excited about "skinning" I installed Window Blinds and gave it a whirl. It worked fine, except the settings go back to default after I log off XP. How do I make them stick, or is this the way it's supposed to work?
