I have: NVidia GeForce GT 740M (2GB) Intel HD Graphics 4600 bang up-to-date, and running under stinky Windows 8 (.1, Pro)

Thanks for suggestions. I wouldn't ask this question if all my drivers were not up-to-date. It inspired me to do some more playing. The only thing which worked was: force it to use the integrated Intel gfx, switch Windows screen resolution down from the native 1920x1080 down to 1600x900. Then I could get into game. I could then set its resolution off default "desktop" to explicit 1600x900; which allowed me to restore desktop to full! It
New laptop, Windows 8, up-to-date drivers. Any attempt to launch FE:LH gives "Failed to initialize display". Nothing in Event Viewer. Lappy has both integrated Intel & Nvidia gfx cards, so far as I'm able I think I've made it try with both. Any ideas/hints/suggestions, please?
Don't think it was any of those. What about the clue/behaviour I mentioned: when I (attempt to) move an army to his city, it marches up to the adjacent tile, then it can be seen to "march on the spot" (you see it moving!) and refuses to enter/attack the city. What would that indicate?
Still my first game. After yonks of building and no AI aggro, I go looking for trouble. I'm at war with some guy --- good. I hover over an output of his, sword icon, march there, poof, it's mine. Great! But now what? My attempts to stomp on him are in vain. I can no longer "attack" anything of his. If I send my guys against, say, a city of his, they end up marching on the spot just outside the city! They won't attack --- nor ou
That has worked for me. I have just bad mouse when the Choose Research dialog opens. If I pick hardware mouse it is always always just Windows pointer. But then you lose genuine clues when mouse it supposed to change, so I have gone back to "buggy" cursor!
Hmm, I don't remember that (not at PC right now), just how "quick" & "little" was that window?
Sorry if this is blindingly obvious, but can I tell in my current game what AI opponent level setting I chose when I started it? Tx.
I haven't seen problems viewing champion traits. But for me when the "choose next research" dialog comes up the cursor becomes the "hour glass" while I choose --- fiddly to tooltip the little icons in each research box. Are you guys seeing that?
Seconded :) Is there a way --- at either strategic or tactical --- to make the current unit "pause", let the next unit takes its turn, but not "pass" away its turn yet? (I think you can do this by clicking to another unit maybe, but what about a key for "next unit") Or is it a deliberate game mechanic that units are supposed to act in order only?
Indeed, all running and 1.3. Now, that's upstairs on the desktop, you've said it's OK to install Steam and access the game from my laptop downstairs too. Given how long it takes to download LH again, can I somehow copy what I've already got installed from upstairs, then perhaps install Steam client properly on top, and it would accept that it doesn't need to re-download the whole game? That would save a lot of time... Thanks.
... and you will get at least two DLC's soon for LH.
What does this refer to, please? And do I need [i.e. I won't want to live without] to purchase DLC from day one? Tx.
Thank you, Leo, that makes me happier to purchase via Stardock. However, you say "[Stardock] are not part of Valve", but the foot of this forum page states: "Copyright © 2013 Stardock Entertainment and Valve Corporation. " OIC, you're saying Fallen Enchantress is Stardock, while Steam is Valve, and they are "co-operating" but distinct companies here for the copyright....
Thank you for all the replies. I have learnt several things I didn't know --- such as that Stardock is developer of LH, I thought they were distributor, and some Kalypso was author, and also that Steam takes as little as 20%, I assumed they took over and got the lion's share! I'm also beginning to see that Stardock & Steam are both Valve, so they all seem to be in bed together anyway :) And this is a Stardock forum, I didn't know from th
OK, please forgive me, but I don't really understand the whole situation. Steam is a publisher/vendor for third-party games, right? Stardock, on behalf of Kalypso, is the developer-side, right (I don't think you can buy from Kalypso)? Steam has already been selling LH for a few months. Don't understand the significance of the retail release. Don't understand that the developer sells it, but then you have to go through Steam to install/run it.
Does it matter whether I buy from Steam or from Stardock? Does it make any difference to how much the developer gets? Thanks.
"It demands access to the intenet at least monthly" Pardon? Sounds like it's doing on-line dating... "Steam/Steamapps/Common will be your path". Sigh. I had "C:\Fallen Heroes" in mind... It would be nice to know whether you're supposed to be allowed to install on a second PC, or whether it's difficult.
OK! So it seems I might as well just buy from Steam in the first place, if I'm going to have to lump it or like it! (That'll be fun downloading --- where I live in England, we don't yet have electricity, and broadband is 2MB max, with every chance of occasional disconnect during large downloads...) Thank you for saying Steam won't be my worst nightmare. Which of the following will apply, please: Steam client will reformat my hard disk?<
I have decided to buy this game [e digicons]:)[/e] . In the UK at least it has just become available retail, Amazon would suit me fine (I presume I get a nice DVD). It is already on Steam, but I have always managed to keep clear of Steam, I don't want any install manager etc. I'm much happier doing my own installing, downloading and applying patches myself, and so on. If I buy from Amazon instead of Steam, will I get just the same game?
