Hmm...I can see a variety of perks to this train of thought: -The industry has gone a bit insane with Q1 2010 dumping of projects that were slated for this Fall/Winter...so a lateish summer release during the usual drought, while being nice in principle, might well also have the benefit of people not being as strapped for cash due to the incoming Q1 deluge of games. -One would hope the best case for any "How Sophisticated?" bits would be som
This has been made in Civ IV. Actually, a scenario of Fall from Heaven II, the 144th KRAG, is a roguelike, with random map regeneration when you go up/downstairs. And the scenario was limited to python and xml changes only. The guy also made a Sudoku in Civ IV... This modder would probably have been unable to code his mods in C++ imo.
133rd KRAG(Google's pretty sure you'd be loo
Fantastic, keep the informative links coming for this brave upcoming world of Python 3.x that Elemental will use!
I don't think mods would want to write their stuff in C++ to be honest. The ONLY reason that mine are C++ is to make it so that people can have some surprise in how the AI works. The more I use python, the more I like it. I dream of a future where some modder is making an RPG with the Elemental engine.
Heh, will a Graphical Roguelike of sorts be close enough? Still have Python a
Dwarf Fortress eh? This is the stock thing that must also be posted for newcomers and people that mess with it alike! www.youtube.com/user/captnduck His video tutorial series is very entertaining, informative, and a bit blue at times.
Another worthy trick would be to introduce "new" or different than stock elements (How about some Sound, Magnetic, Gravitational, Life, etc whathaveyou) and have it allow for DEEP combinations and such to beget and even greater variety of effects...even just basic stuff like an Earth Mage creating a giant Boulder, another type willing a plague horde to come into being within it, then a Gravity Mage to fling the lot of it over an enemy's defensive wall and into the interior where it will damag
Yep, tis a meaty game. I do so hope Elemental manages to trump them with a large full color and incredibly slick manual though. I reckon there's bound to be some ideas looked into that it and other games have for Elemental.
I also like the notion of AI alliances in situations where it makes sense. Likewise, I reckon we've got a bead on something of a solution to late-game blues in the Universe of Magic topic. Because even if attaining a normal "win" is nuanced to prevent steamrolling and such in most cases...you'd still be left with a case of "What then...is this really all that is out there?" Especially since, historically, there's a recurring notion of conquering the KNOWN wo
One would hope Stardock would sit down and hear them out...surely a worthwhile conversation could be had.
June sounds awesome, and the present incarnation already looks nifty this evening. I wonder if the Roguelike community could get some nudging to take advantage of Builder and such...would make for some additional, good visibility for a good number of excellent games. Only stumbling block I could see might be ones that have incredibly complex "free" licenses drummed up...
Would they ship to a PO BOX address?
Elven Legacy is the sequel, you'd probably be better off either getting FW to see if you like the series, or getting EL next week.
Perhaps, But I'm generally crazy like that. I mean, I bought Dominions III without even feeling like playing the Demo---as my first TBS purchase. Besides, this is one awesome deal...and the game will surely have different scenarios and such com
Best of luck to all the betafolk hashing the game out proper!
Make it big like the one in Dominons III...but also make it full color...and that'd be a sight to behold! [e digicons]:D[/e]

What if others from another world would then take note and initiate on your newly conquered world lest they fear you initiate on them? Could work well with the random map generation already within combined with a crafting hand towards "themes". Forest Planet of the Elves?
Definitely gonna grab this and then Elven Legacy when it comes out....though for the latter I'll use Impulse. The deal is for this weekend only. Last week it was King's Bounty for $10 so maybe they've got some kinda pattern going on here.
Minor point: Fire Emblem is very much a save/load game...otherwise the glorious art of RNG burning for some enemy actions and level up stat point distros would not exist. Another way to look at this issue: Ideally, in my mind, would be for Elemental to be designed to where "random" events and happenings, like an Earthquake or some such, are not utterly devastating events. Rather, wouldn't it be ideal, for all parties, if the event opened as many, or mo

All seem possible to me
If the save/load is implemented doesn't that satisfiy both parties? The player can set an internal rule not to load anything but the last save. Isn't the point to have the game be fun for the most number of players?
While I can't speak for anybody else, I think it comes down to relating to design choices in the game. When a game has one system or the other, you tend to develop a different mindset
I agree fully that both modes should be implemented, but if I could pick only one, DEFINITELY save/continue. Pretty much in full agreement with b0rsuk all the way as I am a tremendous fan of Roguelikes and what led me to Dominions III recently, and awakened me in general to Fantasy TBS games, which in turn led me here to Elemental...was seeing some of those fantastic Roguelike elements at play.
Yep, I'm looking forward to finally having a proper chance to play at least these early games(missed them entirely back in the day) via GoG for a low price. I think Steam has some sort of combo pack for HoMM V though.
There's always srtest, though I would like to see a more proactive trend of companies getting their games on there and such. It pretty much works, though is a bit different than what ye seek. www.srtest.com
Folks here gonna give Elven Legacy a shot in another week or so? Looks like they are serious about improving on Fantasy Wars. I'll grab it off Impulse since it happened to get added a little while back. Also, both Seven Kingdoms games can be had for a tiny sum on GoG...though there's apparently a bit of a music glitch with the sequel that I think still needs officially resolving.
Excellent video---indeed the Roguelike is STRONG within this game.
Very nice to see such a strong focus on it. I'm already pretty sure I, hopefully with others when the time comes, will endeavor to make a Roguelike from it/out of it! [e digicons]*_*[/e]
