Actually, for home use, Solar could provide all of your power needs, IF you could store the power efficiently. Even in the winter. Essentially over-produce power in the summer days, and store the excess for the winter months when less sunlight is available. And, of course, the system needs to store some electricity for night/cloudy day use on top of the 'banked' winter storage. This is much more easily done these days, what with household electrical demand dr

For those of us that have NHK World on our local TV, they feature regular stories/updates on Fukishima. The big problem these days is all of the radioactive water that is produced in the cooling process, that they are attempting to store onsite. In recent months, several tanks have failed, releasing radioactive water into the soil/water table/ocean. Essentially they are playing a 'waiting game' of sorts, for the reactors to cool sufficiently where they can get clos

So, apparently AMD had a Tech Day in the last day or so, where they featured Star Swarm/Nitrous... Here's a thread from the presentation comparing performance between DirectX and Mantle with StarSwarm (see slide #5 in the thread): http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/98295-amd-tech-day-kave

Back in the day, when Planescape: Torment was released, I wasted many hours exploring the intricacies of that title, playing multiple runthroughs to try out different things. I really liked how the alignment system worked (starting out 'neutral', with your actions/dialogue choices shifting your alignment appropriately), and how various dialogue choices had a significant impact later in the game. Plus the various settings were just damn cool! Many hoped for a sequel

Well, that is exactly what my code above does. Spawns six places. HOWEVER, it will not allow the quest to advance, and it marks five locations differently than the sixth (green chest instead of yellow scroll). A previous version has six scrolls, but was completely broken (none of the huts would clear). So I'm obviously missing something, hence my sharing my code for suggestions. I've also tried doing this using your quest tool, which hasn't helped e

As long as my next desktop replacement desktop can run GalCivIII, I'm a happy camper. I'm not really a bleeding edge performance guy, but it's time to replace my circa 2007 laptop. Unfortunately, I have to wait a few months for Kaveri to hit notebooks (the new innovations intrigue me). Yeah, I know Intel laptops are da bomb, but I've been supporting AMD religiously for many years now, mainly because Intel abused their market position back in the day, and he

That's just it, Parrotmath. I've written several quests now using the questing system. It's the limitations of the framework that I find frustrating. Linear questing is all fine and good, but gets boring after a while... And if no one is willing to push against those 'limitations' to make more interesting quests, nothing will change.

I'd still be using 98se if it had better hardware support/fewer limitations, just sayin'. Lean and mean... If I could have 98SE with 64 bit support, etc., without all of the 'bloatware' that has crept in since 98se, I'd be a happy camper. This trend of increasing the OS footprint just because larger memory configurations are available is just silly. But then I'm a pretty basic user, that generally turns a LOT of stuff off using msconfig.&nbs

Condition 0 originally had a 'check' to see if an NPC was present in the party (if so, then only goody hut 6 would need to be spawned). It is now empty so as to allow me to test this concept more directly, without unnecessary fluff. Shell Game is strictly to test the code to get this to work. I wasn't sure how else to 'loop' the objectives, as goody huts 1-5 aren't supposed to 'do' anything other than distract the player. At one point

Asimov would have been 94 today... using his 'officially celebrated birthdate'. Isaac actually wasn't sure exactly when he was born, so he decided upon January 2nd, 1920 (it may actually have been as much as month or two earlier, his parents weren't entirely clear on the matter). I don't know which three movies I consider the best (so many), but this might be a good day to break out The Last Starfighter just because... that movie was fun! I Robot woul

Parrotmath, I am currently spawning six goodie huts. The problem is 'clearing' the goodie huts. As all six goodie huts are spawned in the same step/objective, the game is looking for only one objective to clear. Hence, the other huts are 'objectiveless', if that makes any sense. Or that's my guess anyways. I tried a few ways to get it to work, but either the other huts would have no associated quest symbol/were inactive, or as I ment

Not a bump really, but a progress report. As I think I mentioned above, I hit a wall of sorts with this quest. Essentially, I was trying to introduce a decision making step, based on whether a certain NPC was in the party. Essentially, they would tell you where to go next, but if they weren't there you'd be presented with several possible destinations. This would spawn six 'goodie hut sites' to check out, with five of them being dead ends, and the

Just a quick note: I've apparently done a pretty good job adding mods to this list. But, as always, if I end up missing a mod thread, kindly PM me and let me know of the oversight, or feel free to post to this thread, and I will be happy to correct the oversight. Note that this thread deals with Legendary Heroes only. Mods for the other games in the franchise (Fallen Enchantress, and War Of Magic if anyone should feel the need to release a WOM thingie at this point),

Your individual mods are of course still listed separately, immediately below the description of this compilation. So Brad, if I can get a little nosy here, how does the regular Oxide code implementation compare with the Mantle integrated Oxide implementation? Is Oxide already taking advantage of most of the low level API stuff, or does Mantle improve on it significantly? I've seen the hype around Mantle in the last couple of months, i.e. the press releases, preliminary benchmarks, performance incrase claims, etc.. With that in mind, what is your personal experience/impress

When Weapons and Armor values are lower (say 10 or less), the +4 to defense is HUGE. In later stages of the games, when such values are crossing the Dozens threshold, that +4 is much less significant r.e. reducing damage. So I'd recommend +4 defense for lightly armored units, and less powerful weapons, but with heavily armored units, and/or with the later game more powerful/uber weapons, the +10 dodge might be more helpful, especially if they have other Dodge bonuses in play
