I don't agree. If that was the way you played the game, then you removed the difficulty by reloading.

It's all a matter of personal preference. For me, I enjoyed having to plan my movements and keep track of how many TU's I had left. It wasn't about how the TU's matched reality, it was about the enjoyment of having to co-ordinate the varying movement points of individuals so as to accomplish the task. Setting up outside that airlock with three sqad members, one to open the airlock and two to the sides with enough TU's left to get reaction shots on any ali
It's a TBS, how far can you stray within that?
Ummm, how about doing away with time units? Seems that is the way Firaxis has decided to go. All a part of the "streamlining" process I guess. From what I understand, in place of the TU's there is a move+action system. My enthusiasm is waning for this Firaxis re-imagining. No TU's, only one base, the very console-ish UI shown
So tell me, have you ever seen Star Trek: The Next Generation? Know of Captain Picard? Patrick Stewart probably has the best facepalm technique of all time.. However, I'm quite certain I just gave him a run for his money after reading your post RussW. The simplist solution for you in my opinion: uninstall impulse, and move onward towards tomorrow with your chin held high my friend. To my knowledge, your account wit

I haven't played Elemental in a while, nor do I have any experience in game design, so this may be totally unworkable, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents worth. Would it be workable to require either the SOV or an offspring to be present in a new settlement until it reaches a certain level. If it required magic to produce fertile land in order to produce food until the population reaches a certain size, which then allows the peasants to cultivate the land, then this would limit the
I'm done also. I was willing to persevere with the game, especially when I visited these forums to find out why the game was in such a condition and read so many intelligent posts, but after being here for a week, I've found the community here to be disturbing. The level of devotion to Stardock, Frogboy and Elemental borders on the theistic. I have better things to do with my time than wade through pages of fawning devotees in an attempt to get what is, in reality, a shoddy
Very disappointed in Bethesda on this one. Looks like Oblivion and Fallout 3 mods indefinitely for me. Lost sale guys.
Or you could buy the retail version of the game and then stick it on a shelf unopened, download the steam free version and play the games you want without giving in to steam's invasive tactics. Bethesda, Firaxis, etc. still get their money from your sale, but steam doesn't get to ma
Thanks for the info. As I said before, I usually don't frequent game forums as they seem to be mostly inhabited by rude, unhelpful ppl, but after spending a few minutes looking through these forums I'm surprised and impressed by the level of intelligent discussion going on, not to mention the level of dev interaction as well. I may spend the next few weeks reading all the great posts here discussing the game mechanics and how they could be improved. It's almost as interestin
Ahh. Thanks. It surprised me as it almost completely negates the value of ranged attack if any damage taken by a unit is ignored and the unit still attacks with the strength of an undamaged unit. I am enjoying the game despite the problems I seem to be finding so I guess I'll keep playing and keep an eye out for any patches. Cheers. [e digicons][/e]
I don't usually visit game forums, but having recently seen Elemental on Impulse, I impulsively decided to try it and so bought a copy. I find I'm having difficulty understanding the mechanics of combat also. For example, an enemy unit made of of four soldiers, each with a defence and attack value of 12 (giving the unit a combined attack of 48 and combined defence of 48) attacked a city I own. After a couple of turns there was one soldier left in each unit which I assumed wo
