I love your enthusiasm, but I just don't want it to be honest. Cities and resources make me money, and I'm happy not having to fiddle with it too much. If this was more of a civilisation building kind of game, i'd see your point, but I'd really rather expend my micro effort on casting the right spells, designing units and going on quests. Steam is great. Most of the criticisms of it seem to come from a fear of a potential monopoly, leading to (as brad fears), developers getting shafted. But gamers clearly don't want every developer to have their own DD app with their own log in information. Of course they don't: it's complicated and redundant.
