This is something I've mentioned before. And I'm going to mention it now. At the moment, cities are factories and warehouses. They hold no value other than doing fancy things with resources, and sometimes they are useful for defending a location (IE, a high defense city on a land bridge). What does that mean? It means that unless cities are being used for something (war) they are utterly worthless. We have a bunch of citizens who spend their days twiddling their thumbs, eating

Whee! Let's see... The current resource system both encourages snaking and city spammage. The biggest example of this was when a dragon's roost was in the middle of nothing and close to my capital city: far enough away that I couldn't snake to it (I tried, oh did I try) and close enough that, after my snaking was done, I couldn't build a city to capture it. I think it'd be a lot easier to have an option to 'migrate' things - if I find some spiders, or Drath, or even Dragons in
Game is slightly disappointing. With any other developer, I would have already demanded my money back. But, Stardock has yet to produce a game that, ultimately, was not worthy of the money. So long as you guys stand by your games, I'll stand by you. As long as updates come out to fix/upgrade the game - I have every confidence that they will - then I'm willing to be patient for a bit. And, fear not, we players will make it a point to update you on every facet of the game that w
I think the biggest problem isn't that magic is too WEAK, but that magic doesn't SCALE properly. To me, the late game is usually defined by big armies, filled with squads (companies? the 12-soldier one) of units, usually with extremely high defense and high attack power. Most 'stacks' of units have upwards of 200 health when well-trained, while most have around 100-150. And magic can't do more than a fraction of that at any time, and can't do it reliably. At the end-game, if y

I have seen a few topics about magic being too strong (95% of the time, early on) and about magic being too weak (95% of the time, end game). I agree with both, personally, and figured that it'd be useful for whatever updates come to have a main list of stuffs. So far, this is what I have. Magic is based solely on your intellect for terms of damage. Which means that if you have 20 int, you can do UP TO 20 damage normally. Because of this, you can also do 1 damage, regar
Whee! More powerful magic! Boom, boom, hahahaha! ...ahem. Yes, making magic flashier is worthy of...of good things. -cough-
I thought they were 4, too. Try getting one more and then go back.
I'm of the mind that if you can't beat something by sheer force, beat it by sheer numbers. Statistically speaking, Capitar was superior to Yithril. But Yithril had more people fighting for them. So at the end of the day, while the dragon and assorted Capitarian soldiers were able to do some damage, they got paper-cut to death. The fact that having a dragon and a few nice soldiers doesn't equal automatic win just shows - you can't play the game as a dance with numbers. There is
Process seems to be fairly straightforward. Tiles can be made easily, only hard thing is quests - in theory. FrogBoy says he hates doing quests, which is enough to keep me away from them. And I'll assume that creatures are easier than quests. And abilities are easier than quests. So the hard part will be implementing the options. -N
The campaign is influenced, at least in part, by the release of the demon Kroxir. We are told that adventuring idiots released an ancient demon-lord and he's now doing horrid things to innocent people, eating babies and stealing pies that are cooling in the breeze. That sort of stuff. Elemental is filled, or was filled, with dozens of beings of incalcuable power. Kroxir is probably just one of many - there are surely other slaughter-crazy demons, dragons from the dawn of time, entitie
I did it all the time in other games - GalCiv, Sins, etc. - by simply cheating myself to superiority, or being naturally better (99% of the time, against AIs of the easiest diffculty :D) and merely watching. Heck, in Lord of the Rings: BFME, I always did this. Except I usually intervened in small ways to keep the game going, as any game can end swiftly when one AI gets the upper hand. Usually, major battles would have a handful of my soldiers, sniping away or forming a nifty shield-wa
Hm...to shift tab, or not to shift tab. THAT is the question. ...yeah, probably will just sit back and watch the madness unfold. This calls for popcorn!

The letter was written in a neat, slanted cursive, with clearly overpronounced capital letters. The black, spikey words seem to contain a hint of malice, but whether or not the malice is implied remains a mystery. It beared a nobleman's seal at the top, the most prominent feature of which is a howling wolf beneath a silver disk. I hope they give us a notice/warning when we're able to play again. I had a serious high, and then a crash, after I found I couldn't play. Sunday/Monday awaits...must be patient... *struggles to contain self*
Whilst dealing with bastards... I know that there are many, many books out there with stories that go along the following lines... Kingdom A was ruled by Person. Person had a kid, Kid. Person died, and instead of Kid taking over, Angry Uncle Who Wants to be King takes over. AUWWtbK tries to kill Kid, Kid flees to your nation. And then Kid says, "Hey, ! Ya know how you used to be friends with my dad, Person? He's dead, AUWWtbK took over. Wanna help me out?" <
FrogBoy said that RT combat was out because it didn't feel right with the system. A turn-based strategy map, with a real-time battle system? That's what brought the change. In theory, at least. Heck, I got interested when it was supposed to have massive battles of 10,000 vs. 10,000 late game. That's out too, until a modder can make a blessed creation and make it work. But, the combat being turn-based is one minor let down. Elemental's strategy form is a blast already, and I ca
I would add to this...the nobility thing, at least. The system itself I love, especially if it happens to include Tiberon's latest idea, that of having noble lines. I'd love it, personally, if the nobles acted like nobles. That is...they aren't just champions with fancy titles. They actually had comments on stuff that happens, and - if they thought you were doing a crappy job - would say so. And perhaps even try to usurp the title of Sovereign. I've said it before, I'll say it

Anyone know if we'll be able to play on the Elemental map/campaign map without playing the campaign? As in...just starting up a random game and having at it?
I know I've mentioned this before, or at least a part of it - the ability to customize the random worlds that we generate randomly. Something that I wanted to suggest was the ability to customize the population of the world, probably via slider. This would determine both how quickly cities fill up (a world with a higher population would confer a natural boost to city Prestige) and how many heroes are in the world (a high population would have a TON of heroes, while low population woul
There is a list of things I planned to mod into the game. New buildings, equipment, a new faction for myself, etc. When I found out that editing would be done partially in an XML file, I scrapped 99% of my list, saving only the faction I want to play. And I'm really not looking at that like it's something possible now. I am NO modder. I want to play the game. Some people can sit down and find editing stuff to be fun, but XML documents are a foreign language to me. I don't want to have
I am not excited. Main reason? It comes out when I'm getting ready to go back to school. So it'll come out during the days when I am prepping for college. And that means it'll be sitting on my impulse, calling to me, while I pack mundane stuff. BUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, my laptop will have Elemental loaded on it. -N
