Nice read. I like these gameplay and AI testing journals. Keep them coming! I'm glad to see the AI is putting up a decent fight for you and you are tweaking the AI along your journey to help with their decision-making. ....And I hope you lose this game. And the next ones [e digicons][/e] I think it would be a nice experiment to see if the AI could get past natural land barriers with raise or lower land spells, like the mountain you raised
I take my lore from Wookipedia as well as the various novels. Plus, when I was writing Destiny's Embers, my editors were the same editors of the Star Wars EU books and I got to hear a lot of lore from them. But basically, the Sith are certainly evil from the Jedi point of view. The Sith believe that civilizations grow and improve by competition and conflict. They are similar to "The shadows" in the Babylon 5 univers

I view FE as a remake of WOM, which is very unfortunate. Not because it's a remake but because that time making FE was spent on rethinking core game mechanics that did not provide the gameplay I was expecting: specifically tactical battles, magic, city building, economy, quests, dynasties. I am glad those mechanics have been redesigned (or removed, in the case of dynasties), and I am hoping that they will serve as a solid foundation upon which to build the next expansion. </
I'm so glad that Stardock decided to implement solar eclipses (see OP picture) in FE. Never knew those were random though.
I have mixed feelings for the spells of FE. As someone has said, most of the spells just play around with stats, and too few do anything truly interesting . But I do like how they feel different from one another. I have another concern. Because of the way champions and channelers gain magic proficiency when they level, ans well as the steal spirit spell, I feel that by the end of the game all channelers would be masters of all schools of magic. Due to my bias
It wasn't very clear to me but I think he said that there are no population caps and that food resources only function as population growth boosters. Is that right? Also, I really like the idea of tying different aspects of the game to each other. His example was that the trophies won from a boss monster could be used in a city to boost population growth. I like the idea of interconnecting game concepts a lot, but I get the initial impression that population growth
sorry. wrong thread.

As someone who bought CivV on realease day and who is looking to get Shogun 2 someday, I wonder why I should ever bother buying games full price when they come out when I can instead wait, oh say a year, for the ( game of the year/gold ) edition prepackaged with DLC at a lower price. For multiplayer-centric games I despise DLC that add new maps and game modes as it only results in splitting the community. Good DLC is stuff that only affects the aesthetics of the game. League of
I vote yay for simultaneous combat. It would really reduce the advantage the attacker currently has. If you have even forces, it is very easy to win a fight without any loses because you can strike first.
What he says. Players just have an overwhelming advantage because we always attack the right targets, and the AI the wrong targets. This could help even things up.
Unit Abilities: Seasoned - Unit starts at 2nd level Armor: Wizard-Forged Breastplate - A magical breastplate with increased defense Monsters: Forest King, - Better name for a Green Dragon Firewing, Blazewing - Better name for a Red Dragon Widow maker, Arachnid Queen, Mother - Better name for a Giant Black Widow Spider
I don't mean to be a source of discontent, but I don't understand why they can't just add to the 1.3 running log a change to damage calculation during tactical combat to avoid the problem with having troops immune to attacks by having overly high defense ratings. Wouldn't it be very easy to do?
Also the "less city micromanagement" in this interview sounded suspiciously close to "dumbed down" or "deemphasized", but it's Stardock so I'm at least far less worried than I otherwise might be.
I am fairly confident that all they meant was not having to build housing to grow your cities. That became tedious. In addition, that would free up city space to build more meaningful buildings.
I can understand why they would cut out dynasties: there are more important aspects of the game to work on and not enough time to flesh out the preexisting, though underdeveloped, dynasty system. I would've like to see diplomacy based in part on arranged marriages rather than solely on trade. I really hope the dynasty concept is not dead and will return in the 3rd game.
Quoting razor436, reply 103 When you compare Civ series technologies to FE, you are putting FE at a disadvantage. Civ technologies are much more interesting because they have: historical meaning to us unlock iconic units of the era, rather than bland weapons unlock buildings that, unlike WoM, have more impact on your civilization than in WoM. e.g. some buildings affect happiness
Quoting razor436, reply 61 Speaking of balance and tech, there is one thing that always nagged me about TBS games: large factions have a large advantage at producing tech, leaving small factions lagging far behind. In Civilization terms, I'm thinking tanks and helicopters vs. musketeers. In FE, how does the little guy remain relevant in a game with large superpowers. Are small factions fighting a lost cause because they canno
Listen, I hate to be negative at all after you took the time to put something together for us to look at... But, the old tech trees just screamed 'bland'. And while I like everything that you're doing here, I think that a little bit of flavor text, less utilitarian titles, and more nuanced tech function would go a long way. Because, honestly, right now you might as well name them 'Unlock Game Mechanic 1&#
Finally, another dev journal from Derek. It has been too long. Tell me if I got this right: You scrapped the old tech system an replaced with one very much like Civilization in terms of look, tech costs, and prerequisites. Also, sorry for being nit picky, but about the picture of the UI you posted in the OP, how are we supposed to scroll the tech tree up, down, left, and right? I'm waiting for the price to drop to $5 for the whole package.
I have a question for those who have played Shogun 2. In the he last game that I played, Medieval 2, pathfinding was horrible. Specifically, I'm referring to movement of troops on walls and through the very narrow streets of a city. Does that problem still linger in this game?
