I love Steam for its service. The ease of purchasing, updating, and organizing games is awesome. I really like when games offer an optional steam-key so I can enjoy the service. I hate steam for keeping my games hostage. I have no guarantee that the products I have payed for will be available to me in the future. If bad things happen with a game purchase, I cannot exercise my rights as a consumer. Any complaints through legal authorities or my local bank is likely to end in a blocked
I think that idea has merit from a standpoint of ease of managing your traide,s mq, but it makes it hard to think about how you could hold trade routes at risk in a war situation (or even from the creatures of the wild). Could you lay out a mechanic that allows for trade route disruption in the "trade screen" setup? Maybe we reimagine the whole concept of trade.
Why make it harder than it is? Not to put
I like the free view, but I wouldn't mind some colored underlay when placing buildings so that it gets clearer when zoomed out.
I completely agree with the OP. The idea of vulnerable caravans populating trade routes is awesome. Micromanaging them: not so much. There really is no reason that establishing trade routes couldn't be made easier. Give me a button on my city for "establish trade route", let me pick a target city, then automate the rest, including costs.
After WoM I kept my expectations low, but wow! I never imagined you could improve the game so much, and still keep the feeling of Elemental. It would have been so easy to just redo it all like just another civ-clone, but you really didn't. The graphics are still Elemental, but so very much prettier. And the gameplay is still so very unique, but with a great level of structure and polish. Besides some random crashes it's easy to forget that this game is just a beta. [e digicons
