Humbordt
I'm not bent or anything, I just thought I'd take the opportunity to mess with you.
Good article, dad. You know, though, it seems that there was something else that happened there in Texas in 1971. Funny that in an article about your life in that particular place in that particular year, there was no mention of it. [e digicons];)[/e]
Instead of making it illegal to carry a gun within 1000 feet of a congressman, we should pass a simpler law making it illegal to shoot people. If we had a law like that, this never would have happened. Right?
Remove government funding of ALL art.
Thank you. We all have the right to simply turn our heads away from things that offend us, or to roll our eyes at things that were purposefully designed to offend (as is the case with a lot of controversial "art" like the "Piss Christ" and what not), and that's generally what I suggest we all do. But forcing us to pay for those things... now that's something else entirely, isn't it?
haha, this is toothache. using humbordts computer at work. sorry for any cornfusion!
my earliest memories are of patch. walking all by myself to kindergarten. huge walk when i was 4, probably not a very far walk. our first color tv. (ha! try explaining that to maxxo and jaybird). i remember hbw beating me up right by the christmas tree one year there. you and mom were out shopping. i remember you teaching me to ride a bike out behind the building in the grass. no training wheels for this kid. i was all over that post on whatever bike i could get matt or mike to let
They will never develop an advanced space program as a liberal government... but they could have a social transition which results in their government becoming liberal and inheriting a fleet of advanced space ships. Of course, they will end up dismantling it over time to funnel funds to welfare but for some time they would be a threat
True. In that scenerio, though, I would imagine they wouldn't kill us, because, as liberals, they would see our lives as way mo
"what if we encounter an alien species with a liberal government in power?" Never happen. An alien species with a liberal government likely wouldn't have much of a space program.
Serving hetero and homosexuals can keep their private lives private.
Bingo.
it was a travesty to include these attachments to a Bill our troops need to continue their job.

One Bill one issue
I personally don't have a problem with gays in the military (anybody willing to go out and kill and/or die for the rest of us automatically deserves some respect, in my book, even if, in their spare time, they choose to use their digestive tract in a way nature never intended), but I agree with the above statement
you can be dead serious. You have the RIGHT to move about the country as you see fit. It is part of the right of freedom. By denying you that right, they are taking away your freedom.
That's the point I was making (that no degree is acceptable--I seem to recall somebody saying that), but I really can't honestly say I get all that indignant when things like that happen.
Humbordt, you mean I can agrue for something that I am totally against
They're the exact, same thing.
The violence is, as everybody repeatedly agrees. Christianity and Sharia are quite different. That is the argument. The proof of that is that no one has killed you . Rolled their eyes at you, yes. Killed you, no. Like I said, you don't even believe it.
You continuously refuse to equate Christian violence with Muslim violence.
So every time I a
You've apologized for Christian violence
When?
So that is an affront to your freedom? How? Tell me how.
Read the part where I said "blocking traffic." People should be free to drive across town. If they (and protesters of any stripe, I'm not singling out gays here) want to keep their group tantrum out of the way, then fine.
Fascinating that you don't consider people making religious based laws a problem f
Humbordt... there is no place for rationality for some.
I know. Am I really hoping to convince everybody's favorite anger-issues guy of anything? No. But it's a fun little distraction. It's been slow at work. And Dan, when I call you an anger-issues guy, I mean it the nicest possible way. [e classic];)[/e]
Then why do you apologize for one when it's your beloved Christians? If you know these people have a history of violence, why do you mitigate that when talking about religious violence? If you agree that no degree is acceptable, then you should also agree that any effort made to keep one from committing acts of violence ought be done to others. If your premise is "don't let them build a church because they might come after us with their Sheriaz", then you should advocate the same
"Muslims kill more people than Christians". Again. No degree is acceptable.
Sharia sanctions killing people. Christianity does not. And again. No one said it was acceptable.
I said it's the exact same thing.
Also silly. Those few anti-abortion murders were considered crimes. Even by Christians. What's so hard to understand about that? What church was our Tiller murderer attending that specifically told h
So Humbordt, So you're not against religion being a driving force behind laws - you just don't want to be forced to convert to Islam?
Again, you're stretching. While it's true I don't want to be forced to convert to Islam, I don't want to be forced to convert to anything, especially upon pain of death. What I said was that I don't care about that law, but it's not comparable to Sharia because saying "This group cannot marry" is not t
Prevalent? No degree is acceptable. So what should we do? Rank out the top 5 churches that kill people and ban them from building new churches? Or just the one where it's most prevalent (and is not christian, and happens to be populated mostly by brown people)?
I didn't say anything even remotely like that, and you know it. You asked what the difference was, and I answered. Your ant-abortion murders were crimes , even Christians agree with that--h
Hmmm.
You're actually making my point for me. Yes, that was way out of line. But they weren't stoned to death, were they?
And it's platform positions can be freely rejected by 'non-believers' at no risk to their well-being
Bingo.
Again. No degree is acceptable.
And I agree--in fact, I said almost exactly that myself. But where is murder more prevalent? And by "more," I mean "way, way, way more." And Tiller's murderer had to break the law in order to kill him. With Sharia, people get stoned according to the law. That's a big difference.
So do you support Christian versions of it? Like Prop 8?
Dude, I honestly do not care about gay marriage, one way or another. But from what I understand, no one opposing gay marriage is suggesting a law that says gay people should be put to death, so I still don't see that as a Christian version of Sharia. My sister is a big fan of the Beatles. I guess that makes her the same as Charles Manson.
So to be clear on your philosophy: Enforcing Sharia values here in the US would be ok so long as it's not violent?
Wow, that was a stretch. No, I was merely pointing out the difference. That's what you asked. And the "long history of anti-abortion violence," while, agreed, is completely wrong--it absolutely pales in comparison. How many anti-abortion deaths have there been verses how many deaths in the name of Allah? While none of it is jus
