[quote who="GreyCow" reply="14" id="3462425"] As a counter-example, how about Fall From Heaven 2? It was a 4X game, had good AI, deeply integrated magic, highly differentiated races/factions with their own unique goals and behaviors... the AI wasn't as good as a human player, but still made for a challenging/interesting game (esp with the armageddon counter to drive the game along; a player could lose if they didn't take action). Yes, the devil is in the details. All advances in technology can be used for good or for ill. A sharp knife can be used by one person to maim and murder others. The same knife in the hands of a surgeon can be used to heal and even save a life - fixing a broken world. I cried tears of joy and sadness watching the 'gentle rain from heaven.' May many more hearts be nourished by this rain. And may the reign of those who seek only their own good, no matt

[quote who="smeagolheart" reply="4" id="3461334"] I'm wary of it. It looks like it wants to be a chistopher nolanesque type movie. The even rented Morgan Freeman. The premise as laid out by the trailers seems to give away the whole plot of the movie: Captain sparrow is dying and is saved into a computer program. Then he dies. What's like being alive man, really? Is this computer program Johnny De

[quote who="Uvah" reply="9" id="3460063"] I've said a few things in response to certain articles I've read that in other countries would guarantee a visit by the 'secret police'. So far however I've not been visited by anyone and I'm pretty sure my comments have been seen by more than just other readers. Google for example has revised its policies yet again by admitting that they will scan your emails. Let them scan mine for all the good it will do. Everyone who

Several times I have made similar suggestions, (and some different suggestions) several years ago. It seems that SD is committed to the queuing of combat unit orders via the initiative mechanism. My focus was on conditional orders that would be implemented by AI (like melee unit stand fast =defend, ranged unit volley against unit that closes with it, mounted unit charge enemy unit (or wait until enemy unit closes within X spaces, then charge. All orders would be issued

No. The kind of harassment I'm speaking of has been in 'competitive' online multiplayer gaming since the beginning. The words being used and the medium have simply changed. Years ago you would get

[quote who="EvilSalmon" reply="17" id="3461447"] Also, a use for the spiders silk, scales, etc other than just selling them. Use in potions, research, improving magic accessories, etc. or just selling. Getting these items is like getting gold atm. might as well just get more gold as it stands. It doesn't have to be toooo valuable, but If I sell them I'd like to give up something, some could be useful only in selling or I can say... hand over a bunch of pelts to a city

The GAME is less interesting to me than the communities around the games so posts like this are what it's all about in terms of making it possible to make a better game. ... The future: I think it's safe to say that Elemental has had a tremendous influence on fantasy 4X (every time I see th

This method won't work on girls Nope, it wouldn't.... but give girls who have been victims of sex crimes two bricks. Let them remove the offending gonads. As for female offenders/villains, they should get the going rate for males when it comes to sentencing, with no leniency for the 'fairer' sex.&nbs

Looks interesting. Nice graphics. Will wait to see how players respond to the game when ts been out for 6 months. BTW, I loved the unit designer in SMAC - still don't understand all the people that hated it -or were confused by it. Was awesome. I'm hoping this new game features a variety of truly different planet types for colonies.

Shot in the dark suggestions (re: hot graphics card). Place lap top edges on top of two books, boxes, whatever, to create increased air flow under the lap top. Might be just enough to help. It worked for me when playing civ 4 FfH2 on my lap top.
