I concour. I'm not a troll, but I imagine the worst thing for them is to watch a flame post (d?) evolve into insightful conversation [e digicons]}:)[/e] .

Yes... alternitive methods of victory are the keystone of any "sneaky" empire..... I was particularly fond of the spy condition (in which you become a sort of "shadow government" with no above-board power but irremovable and controlling tentacles in everybody's pie), but alas the espionage system in Elemental is likely going to be rather stunted and not fit for victory status...... The problem with this system is that size really does matter, so you need some effective and robust way

Ran through the equations, and they seem pretty sound.... I realize my math oversimplifies the process a bit (and doesn't really allow things like a faction that has fur but finds exoskeletons sexier than scales when push comes to shove), but over all I'm pretty satisfied..... one wonders how many traits we'll be dealing with, and if they'll be moddable.

I looove the xenolphobia/philia idea! Attractiveness modeling can be actually made fairly complex with a few simple equations and many independant variables, like this: Traits come in two types: sliding and swapping: "Sliding" traits are things like skin tint, nose length, leg thickness, et cetera that can be shown on a continuum broken up into discrete integers. Swapping traits are things like skin texture, warts, extra arms, and such: either you have them
Having your children turn into monster babies would make players make bad gameplay decisions based on wanting a good character to look at. No one will want to make a marriage with the goblin types and everyone will always marry the Slaaneshland guys.
Huh? If theis game was an RT"S", maybe, but I'd like to think that the average Elemental fan would be a bit more Machiavellian.
I believe the idea of an interesting endgame wasn't that randomness would make the weak strong, but people would be amassing different types of power (Adventure/Magic/Diplomacy/Military divisions being the most obvious) that would clash in interesting ways instead of a "battle of the biggest".
Exactly. "Predictable unpradictability" is where it's at in my book.

I like the idea (who doesn't), but there are a few problems with the implimentation: the "going Gandalf" idea tossed about in the earlier posts certainly helps, but we're going up against a fundamental fact of society. Namely, that power is autocatalyitc . This means that soverigns with more....... well...... "stuff" can use it to get even MORE "stuff" and keep that "stuff" away from soverigns with less to begin with. Geographic luck has been a

This should be interesting... I haven't been following the inheritance thread very closely... have you boys/girls changed the male-inheritance-only policy yet? Also, I am actually rather disappointed that "fantastic" creatures are going to be relegated to the position of "champions".... this just seems needlessly boring to me: I see no reason why wierd things can't be cheap and weak, and thus readily accessible while still preserving balance. Finally, spelling seems... enticin
