I don't know what it's called but when you click on a letter on the start menu it makes and index panel. Please make the font on the index panel a bit larger and arrange it in 4 even columns of 7 instead of 5 columns with 5 full rows and two missing from the sixth row. Index Panel Image

"This unit has a series of guns, each with its own firing solution, it has its own personal line of sight." In that picture I see 4 tiny twin turrets down each side and one giant quad one in the middle. (plus maybe some I missed?) Does this mean all 9? turrets independently target for every one of these units in the field of play?
This looks great! A couple of questions though. Does it support resume on file transfers in the event you have spotty internet or do you have to start completely over if your connection breaks? Also any chance that this will support non-Steam versions of Stardock games in the future?
I'm not sure how many games really are released with a Steamworks version and a non-Steamworks version. I'll take your word that it's "a lot".
That's not what I said. I said lots of games have steam and non-steam versions. Typically the non-steam versions are released as a direct download by the developer (such as the games I can download from the Stardock site) or GoG and the Humble Store
I realize that was a joke but I'm not sure Stardock getting some help through crowdfunding would be a bad idea. If making a non-steam version costs so much then why not make a kickstarter and make it clear that the game is coming out for steam no matter what but you can kickstart a DRM-fre

It's not 1791 anymore either yet the U.S. Bill of rights still applies. I thought they were supposed to be principles not specific implementations. It doesn't say for example you have to release a game on any specific media type that would date it. The closest thing
It's largely a result of Consoles that have held back 64bit adoption in gaming (and heck DirectX adoption beyond 9). Since the Xbox360 and PS3 were essentially 32bit DirectX 9 boxes and developers tended to want to at least leave the option for a console port (who am I kidding, most top tier games were developed on consoles first then ported to PC in recent years) that's been the glass ceiling for PCs. Since both the PS4 and Xbone are 64bit loads of RAM I'd suspect we&
It certainly can be done without Steamworks, but Brad is pointing out that it makes life a lot easier to do what he's trying to do. Also, Star Citizen and Minecraft are both true indie projects. One is super-low resources, AI, etc and was able to be organically grown along with the user base. It was never intended to be what it became - a release like GC3 will need to be planned from the ground up.

Well, if all of this is such a problem for you how about you log out of steam? This is the root of the problem here, you left your account logged in. Of course there are other workarounds possible, I for one have all my saves hardlinked to a dropbox account. Of course I am not saying there is no need for improvement in the way steam handles this, there surely is.
This makes no sense. Someone noted their dislike o
Sometimes I wonder if Brad wishes he'd never written that thing. The only references I ever see to it these days are to throw something back in his face
Probably because people believed in the principles behind it and he championed them then turned around and starting violating them when it became convenient to do so.
I disagree. If steam is needed as a download manager, it's not necessarily being used as DRM. I for one will not be pre-ordering the game if it is Steam only. I may not get it at all depending on how much it requires Steam to run. I don't get why I can't just download the game from the same web page I download my other Stardock software from. Failing that then GoG or even the Humble Store are both acceptable to me though I'd really rather have a disc copy. I really don't want a Steam version. While it is true Steam doesn't have to be DRM it usually is. It is possible to use Steam as a digital delivery platform only but almost no one actually does this. An easy test is: Can I install GalCiv 3 from Steam then UNINSTALL STEAM and have GalCiv remain and continue to function (although without automated updates). It is my understanding that a rare few games use Steam this way and then it really is just a digita

I don't trade all my techs at the start, that's what I do when I become so frustrated with the game that I give up. Then I usually quit a few turns later. I start out trading as few as I can for whatever the opponents have. This works ok at the beginning because I might only have two or three techs to their one. As the game progress though my cheap techs start adding up fast and before long I have like 30 techs to their 2. I can't remember which of the
I just bought the game the other day. I have to say the Diplomacy screen is annoying the crap out of me. PLEASE provide functions like COUNTER OFFERS: For example, if I pick what I want from the race I'm dealing with on the trade screen, and pick nothing on mine, then when I submit the offer PLEASE have the computer request stuff from me for what I asked for. It should only flat out deny me if I don't have enough stuff they want in return
I don't really understand the "starlanes" comment. I never played MoO 3 but if starlanes means "no direct flights" between some systems and instead you have to "take connecting flights" no matter what your ships range is then I don't like that idea AT ALL. Sure you might have to take several hops if your range is too low to go all the way in one hop but you should be able to go between any two systems if your ships have the range to do so (unless there
