Options are certainly the spice of life. I would request there be several pre-set option sets to make it easier for those who don't feel like going through all the options to find the gameplay they want.

DUDE! yeah, totally. If they have a feature that lets us play together by contact of stardock accounts, then I am playing with all of you. Like, we early supporters who have spent a great deal of participation could totally play a big through-impulse 2 days (or something) per turn game. You (solam, xthetenth, and GW swicord), McFungos, Spartan, Luckmann, Dale_, Lungdrago, Tamren, Sammuel, vieuxchat, McCracken, Ron Lugge, Iwarmonger, alway, pigeonpigeon, V

I don't mean to be the forum troll, but I don't want to leave any misconceptions. (hopefully this is adding to any balancing that stardock is working upon right now) The book I quoted before pointed out that the longbow caused the downfall because a peasant without expensive metal and trained horse could still take down a mounted knight without having to come within range of a lance. It devestated french knights during the 30-years war, and after that the french stopped re

NO! not caves, we shoud have alternate planes of existant Master of Magic style. Everybody uses underground. I mean, I wouldn't mind underground (since really the programing for it is the exact same as alternate planes, you'd just have different terrain doodats and stuff) but I REALLY want alternate worlds of existance.

If they don't do alternate planes, but rather just underground, they should have the sea-floor where there is water. If this game is like Master of Magic, Heroes of Might and Magic, and other such games, the water combat will likely be the same as the ground combat, except with water tiles that only water guys can be on. That also being said, I doubt that water combat would make a particularly good expansion unless they added bizzaro features l

See, I assumed you'd just capture towns of the other factions like in many other games. * to get access to their armies and stuff

Its true. I'm actually really excited for this 64-bit version. Before there was no reason for me to do it, but now there is going to be. At least to duel-boot. I can't wait. Its also nice to get confirmation of how it is going to work. I wonder if that means the single-player will have different maps.

Well, here is my problem. What about when you capture other town. MoM, AoW, and Homm are all about getting a bunch of different races in the towns. If they have have different economic structure then you wouldn't be able to get different races.

Reply to Campaign in War of Magic

I've seen games that do the "THIS + THAT" map progression in campaign mode. That would make sense from a campaign mode and make the world feel a bit more epic if it grew exponentially katamari style. "This + THAT" would also be made much easier if there were multiple planes (conquer this world, then its time to move on to the next!)

I'm interested in having mercenary groups that are mercenary only. In MoM you'd get mercenaries from time to time. but usually they wern't very interesting, especially late game (which is when the most often appeared) so I'd like to see that feature but a bit more functional. (sky sharks vs. Bear calvery.... I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I kinda wish I could have a poll. normally jump to say BEAR CALVER
But I haven't noticed any dev-types directly answering questions in this area, and I think it might be related to the fact that the tactical layer is still in a 'very early alpha' state. Depending on how this "continous turn" stuff works, maybe it won't be possible to have a PBEM-style multiplayer mode?
I'm certain it has everything to do with the early alpha stage, but at the same time thats why I want to make sure it

@ Vitruvian_Squid : : For the record, historically long bows caused the downfall of both calvery and heavy armor. If somebody said that a long bow cannot penetrate heavy armor, either they are just wrong or they mean armor suitable for a tank that cannot be worn by normal humans without some sort of spe

Try "cave wars". If you can get it to work without crashing then pat yourself on the back and have fun. (I don't think dos box can handle it yet, but I might be wrong)

Ok, this may be a bit out of scope, but I wanted to bring it up anyway. Several games such as Civilization and Diplomacy have incorperated an e-mail multiplayer system. The games are turn based and some casual players just do not have 5 hours straight to sit down and do stuff with a friend(s), where they do have enough time to do 1 turn a day (or two) via e-mail. It is something I know I've gotten my father to do with me for civilization and I'd really like to s

I personally have mixed feelings on trading. Obviously gold xchange should be possible. I fear I don't know enough about the resource system yet for me to give valued input. I personally like the basic trade systems of MoM and AoW just fine. I also like the Civ 4 system where there are other commodities that you can trade to others. Really, I just don't want too much time on trade. Trade is awesome, I play settlers of c

@ pigeonpigeon Well, I think my point is that I think that a single thing that protects from ANY enemy is too powerful. Like I think someone who gets off one of the global spells should have an undeniable upper hand. like <a id="ctl00__Content__RepeaterReplies_ctl05__LinkUser" class="han

I think you are thinking a bit too hard about it. I'll tell you where it comes from.... MAGIC! Thats the point right? espceially if you as a channeler are turning the world back to habitable, you are re-sowing the resources. @ Risinglegend : I always figured the numbers represented taxable members. Babies were too young to qualify OR the parents were taxed for their children.

I personally would want to stay away from a means to easily bring back experianced characters, with exception to a specialist like a high level life-channeler. I always was sad because my super-troops died, but thats the cost of use baby. I don't think experiance should be so busted that you can't come back from it. Now, the ideas that Dr. guppie mentioned sound good. If every hero could be memorable in their death that would be awesome. &nb

@pigeonpigeon The problem I have with a straight up counter-spell mechanic is I imagine that all players at all time then would deticate a certain amount of their resoruces to counter-spelling. Then basically it would turn to who ever is able to achieve counter-spell dominance. The conuter-spells would need to be within reason.

Reply to Staring out in WOM Ideas

Starting with a small group of settlers and a rough idea of the surrounding territory seems like generally the best idea. The only problem I have with that is that I tend to spend too much time exploring to find the BEST place for my first city. But maybe thats just me.

Call me lame, but I actually wouldn't mind a capture the flag game type... Like where there would be X magic nodes and if you capture them you can channel their energy to build a new world or something cheesy like that. (I'm tired >. That being said, the other games that come to mind with those mechanics are almost never used (dawn of war) and thats kinda sad.

see now, I think the idea of having summoned custome usits would be amazing! I would feel like one of the chaos gods. I'm wary of too much spell creation though. I'd like the game to have some awesome pre-made stuff in it. Its like scripted TV to me I guess. Sometimes I like other people to do the thinking for me.

I agree with luckmann. Evil should not = death. (death can = death though, thats fine by me) My evil forests should be like the forests in the move "Unico" where the trees try to trap people and the squirrels have evil eyes.

I do not think that it should be civilization spacific, however I am down for coats of arms like those seen above. Good work, those are totally awesome.
