Now that Roguelikes are on the table, I'm going with Nethack, ADOM, DoomRL, and Elona to a lesser extent, just because of how fucked up it is.

I make my hatred of this game known on the IRC channel. I can't stand how cookie-cutter this game was. No one, A.I. nor human, would ever fall for the ruses because of how obvious they are. Without those, the game is Ground Control. As such, Ground Control doesn't cost 50 bucks.
In before someone makes an Elemental-Civ 5 total conversion mod.
The game is just way too new to have a polished mod yet. How can you polish a mod before the game itself? I am working on a mod, rather a total conversion, that will change Elemental into the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender. But currently, after slaving away in 3ds max, I need to sit on my models and animations, awaiting to see what the new Elemental patches will bring.
The most disturbing part of that Newsletter is learning that Brad wrote a book. I can imagine a jaded, burnt-out coder going to bed at night, and waking up in a fantastical realm of dragons and goblins. Most people just don't keep a dream journal. :P
Campaigns just don't work as the focus of these kinds of games. Elemental is pretty generous in that regard imo. It doesn't really teach you how to play sandbox, but is lore-centric, which is nice.
Where we're going, we don't need civility.
Stop fanboying between two different 4x games. You should never pick between them, you should have them all. It is the only genre worth having a complete collection of. There is absolutely no excuse for not having both Elemental and Civ V.
Let's get some magic resist up in here. Add a black king bar from DotA. Also, add Slardar as a playable Sovereign.
Some people consider the Load function to be an exploit.
...What? All 4x games have a load function. Those people are stupid.
Why would a city change it's architecture just because someone walked into it?
This is common knowledge on the internet. For every 1 constructive post, you get a few hundred trolls and nerdragers. Just cross the bridge quickly, and wipe the chicken grease out of your eyes when the dust settles.
But the fact that this always works makes it not a strategy. It is clearly an exploit. It should be far harder to treaty someone, take all their shit, and then kill them.
4x fans hardly care about traditional multiplayer. This is coming from someone who is extremely active on the Civ2/3/4/5 forums. What I want right now is this 1.1 patch, to fix all the things I love about this game and make them better. I could honestly care less about the multiplayer, and I think a lot of you would rather see SP fix first, and are merely complaining to complain. Who the hell wants to play a broken multiplayer game? ESPECIALLY
In the empire selection screen, Tech Knowledge is still called Worldly Knowledge (I.E, Umber's weakness giving you -20% to Worldly Knowledge). I had no idea what this was until I googled that you changed it.

Too bad this game is trash without Co8's patches and mods. Maybe if Troika hired those guys, they wouldn't have bombed so hard.
Hi Kryo, Isn't this something that should be made explicit on the technology screen as the game progresses? An advisor that appears and says something along the lines of what you're explaining above? One of the greatest challenges I'm finding is how opaque the game is. Without actually saving the game, and trying my turn again in 5 different ways to see how this or that will turn out, it's really rough to actually

This is the next major ‘bug’ on our list, and we’ve made some major headway. Most of the issue lies with the LOD on zoom technology that fades things out as a zoom percentage is reached. Man, is it PC game corporate greed month or something? First Sony, then Turbine, now this insane policy with a ridiculously wrong and rude customer service rep. I honestly thought Stardock was immune to the crap going on, but I guess not. Fall in line with Sony and Turbine, then, another company I won't spend a dime on in this lifetime. Edit: Icepick, you missed the point completely. Don't be a sheep.
Hmm, I've taken a break from playing EWOM while waiting for this bug to be fixed and I've been playing GalCiv2 in the meantime. I've noticed a very similar bug there, specifically that when you have a lot of ships in the screen, the game loses a lot of frames. At some point I had something like 6 large-scale ships on the screen, along with some smaller ones, all in all, around 10-15 models. My FPS dropped to 13! And this is quite an old game. <br
