It's just some small ships of the Arceans. Are there mining bonuses that apply even if their ships are beyond their starbase range? ie; when you build on a military resource? If that's the case, together with researching farther down the tech tree probably is the reason. I went into the trade screen, and they were farther researched like plasma or particle beam.

How do the alien races get a beam weapon attack power rating on a small ship of 27? I've got advanced lasers IV researched and stoke 6 of them on a large hull and my beam attack power is only 6. The aliens can't have any more than 2 of them on a small ship. I even research heavily into miniaturization so I can cram more lasers on my ships. I'm talking in my territory, so they aren't getting a starbase assist bonus. I've never been able to figure this out. Is it just because they have
psychoak, Thanks for your response. The politicians that are running the show sit around in meetings blowing hot air, making a bunch of extraneous laws so they can substantiate their full time political job that started out as a part time job years ago and that's what it should still be, because unless you're constantly making new laws, there is nothing else to do. Most of those guys already had high paying jobs, now they're just making their money a whole
Ok, I'm not really knowledgeable about economics or financial stuff, so let me ask kind of an innocent question, might even sound naive. Please though, before you completely shoot down my idea, give it some thought. Why is our economy not based on our collective ability to produce? Instead, our economy is based on an abstract concept called money. If you have a stack of lumber, hammer and nails, you can build a house. If all you have is a stack of $20's you're gonn
When I click on a Fleet Icon in the Empire overview panel, the panel itself then jumps to the icon of just the raw ship, whatever planet it is on in the Empire overview. This very annoying, because I'm trying of course to select, double click on the Fleet Icon (yellow star looking thing) so the main map screen will jump to where the Fleet actually is. I then have to scroll back up to the Fleet icon and click it again, by this time it has stabilized and then lets me double click on it
Just delete the older shortcut. With mine, the newer shortcut is a different graphic than the old one. I've never seen Windows create two graphically identical shortcuts. If the graphic is identical it just overwrites it.
I always play with just a couple major races and maybe 2 minor races, even on a huge map. That's what the options are for, so you can play the game your way.

I'm not referring to taking a screen shot, I'm just pointing out that the `CapsLock' key on your keyboard toggles

I just downloaded and installed Impulse and it works like a charm. I upgraded Dark Avatar and it even put a dedicated shortcut on my desktop for Dark Avatar. Now I have dedicated shortcuts for Gal Civ II, DA and ToTA. I didn't get that strange toolbar at the bottom, everything works like it's supposed to on Vista Home Premium. My OS came already installed with my comp, if that makes any difference. Anyway, Impulse looks cool, and seems to work correctly. I'm not going
Highwater, Why do you say to ignore an `influence starbase' because it will have zero effect on your planets? Even if a starbase isn't built on an influence resource, a starbase can still be upgraded to have mega influence, which could potentially flip one of your planets, right? Or am I missing something in your guys definitions? Thanks
How does influence make someone elses planet join your side? Is it a matter of proximity, ie; a starbase close to their planet upgraded with influence? Does total race influence affect anything regardless of proximity? I have had a hugely influence upgraded starbase within range (the blue circle) of a Drengin planet now for at least 30 turns. That planet has not defected to my side. But, another Drengin planet in the same solar system defected to the Alterians, but the
I saw a start up screen hint that there is supposed to be a `combat viewer' screen that shows a close up cool battle between ships. Exactly how do I access/enable this screen? Thanks
In order to make it so new ships won't join a particular fleet, here is what to do. Go to the fleet orders for any given fleet (located in lower right of screen) This is symbolized by a pointing finger. Click once on the pointing finger. Now you will see some options, towards the right is a symbol that is ships in formation. This is the button you would normally left click on to create a fleet of already grouped ships. Now, look more closely at the `create flee
I've read about shuttling colonists to a newly colonized planet to rapidly increase the population, but what buttons do you click to transfer the colonists once the loaded colony ship is at the planet? If I put the colony ship `in orbit' the only option I can find is to `launch'. Thanks
You might want to start a small/medium galaxy each for all 3 games, just to check out the differences. The main, immediate differences that you will notice are 1) Dark Avatar has the mineable asteroid fields and uncolonizable planets. This will give you a huge difference in gameplay from the base game, Dreadlords, which is an excellent game on it's own. 2) With `Twilight of the Arnor', each race has their own, custom tech tree, plus the aforementioned additions. This a
Is it possible to keep the AI at bay by using mainly planetary defenses, without having to build a lot of ships? I'm fairly new to the game, and see a lot of ship - based weapons and stuff, but don't see a clear planetary defense scheme. Do you need to build starbases right next to your planets for this type of game plan to work? I see a lot of star base military weapons in the research tree. Thanks
That's too bad about the Avatar pic being left out, because Gal Civ II is really a huge strategy rpg, and you always want to see your character when you're role playing. If anyone also owns Sins of a Solar Empire, the first thing you see when you open the diplomacy screen is your Avatar, it's really cool. It would be great if they could work it into a patch update.
Based on playing the demo, I was blown away, so I purchased the game. RTS is not my main thing, so without the demo I probably would not have bought SoaSE. So, thanks for the Demo!
Once I learn the game mechanics, I do plan to try online, but I've only had the game 2 days, and right now it takes me 5 minutes to figure out what to do next. Plus, I frequently zoom and rotate the map to see how cool everything looks, which I can get away with on easy level!
I would like to see my race Avatar in-game. Maybe in the diplomacy screen, like in Sins of a Solar Empire, for example. Gal Civ II is a huge strategy rpg, with the different AI personalities, so please complete the in-game graphics. Thanks
Just a minor interface option, but one that I would find really helpful. 1) The unit/structure info window that appears when you mouse over, I would like the option for that to stay visible, until I mouse over something else. As it is right now, the window disappears when you move the mouse away even a little bit. Should be easy enough to implement. Thanks
The info window that appears in the lower right when you mouse over a unit or structure. Is there a way to make that info window stay up even after you move the mouse away? Thanks
Where, in game, can you see a picture of you race Avatar? Also, is there a screen that shows what or how many turns you've taken? Thanks
Can additional assembly drones be created, per planet, or are they automatically created with a fixed quantity depending on the type/size of planet. The reason I ask, is I haven't been able to find a way to created additional assembly drones. Thanks!
