I always ignore reviews by IGN, Gamespot or Gamespy. They're dodgy, and you can count on them humping the leg of certain developers regardless of the quality (or lack thereof) of the game in question. I honestly can't recommend any games that have come out in the past few years. The only one that I've played right through recently was Titan Quest, and I didn't really think much of it. A slick timewaster, but balanced for OCD morons. I've tried GalCiv and Sins, but they just didn't grab

I call bullshit. CCP doesn't ban people for using colourful language. I suspect that on viewing the chat logs, the GMs decided that the OP was such a worthless piece of crap that they didn't want him in their game world. It's their call.

I certainly won't be bending over and taking it like a man for corporate America. Not that I would have bought those particular crappy, overhyped console games anyway. The sad, pathetic, moralising gimpboys in this thread have been brutalised by the media for so long that they seem to feel an emotional need to defend their abusers. If only their virtual gimp masks and ball gags muffled their typing we wouldn't be subjected to their inane drivel. I don't give a flying f*** about

I played Eve for two months about three years ago, then gave it another shot up until a few weeks ago. In that time the game has improved enormously, while at the same time the community has gone into the toilet. For the past year or so CCP has been adding more and more handholding 'features', and developing their US market share. Unfortunately they seem to have attracted the absolute worst segment of US mmo players. Putting it on Steam certainly didn't help move their player base up ma

It cracks me up when I see a Blizzard game described as 'groundbreaking'. Blizzard has never had an original idea in their corporate lives. They specialise in 'borrowing' other people's ideas and polishing them to an incomparable shine. Diablo was just a pretty rogue-like. Wow is just a highly polished knock-off of EQ, which was essentially a graphical DikuMUD. Neither StarCraft nor WarCraft were even slightly innovative. Even the WarCraft cartoon style was filched from WarHammer. The o

I don't even buy games unless they're either DRM free or I can get a crack to bypass it. The only games I've ever 'pirated' were really old games that I once owned and wanted to see how nostalgia stacked up against reality. Starforce is the worst, and I'll never buy another game that uses that, crack or not. Even requiring the CD to play is more trouble than it's worth. The online services that require their front-end to be running just to load the game are also out - not to mention th

Oh come on. The odds of the US lasting a decade in its current form aren't good, and the odds of them seeing out the century are virtually non-existent. America's only saving grace is its extraordinary incompetence. Describing them as having an 'empire' is a bit of a stretch, and at best can only be used in the context of a franchise style of 'empire'. While Americans make much of the penetration of their popular culture into foreign countries, it really is limited to movies, music, jeans and ba

Imo, super weapons are gravy. Don't tech-rush to them. Planets first, then better ships, armour upgrades, weapon upgrades, and gravy for flavour. Don't research all of the available ships or weapons - just the ones you're going to use. Same with culture. Start with planet upgrades, then trade and culture. Add gravy at your leisure. Start with a strategy, then settle for trying to save your arse. It works for me - sometimes :)

I'm a newb at this - just AI only so far, but fighter survivability is a bit low for my tastes. I don't use hangars anymore - I find my tactical slots and resources are better used elsewhere - mostly ships, repairers, jump inhibitors and a few turrets if I have the slots to spare. By late game, culture dissemination is rather nice. On my cap ships I go with 100% bombers for good damage and survivability and use flak frigates for dealing with strikecraft. I'd rather have flak frigates over fighte

I don't know if it will be any help, but I had the same problem with my ATI card. It turned out that I had it set to override AA and AF settings for other games. Checking the boxes to let the application control them fixed the problem for me. Prior to that I couldn't finish a game, since after an hour or perhaps a few it would start to flicker and then crash. I haven't had any problems since changing the driver settings.
