I like the idea of a global mana pool, but in so far as it would be like Master of Magic's mana pool in which you have mana as a commodity that can be banked. Mana that is officially "commodified" is also much easier to balance, because it can be compared to other units of utility like "gold." That being said... I would love to see a Master of Magic mod, seeing as how that's what drew a lot of us to Elemental to begin with :-)

So this thread goes hand in hand with another thread I'm working on regarding meaningful dungeons. Basically, the dungeons I describe are part of "dungeon stamps." These dungeon stamps are essentially a chain of connected dungeons across the landscape in a particular locality. For instance, all of the dungeons might have arisen from a nation destroyed during the apocalypse and all of the dungeons in the stamp would have the same monsters and be linke

Seriously though, I just want to make the game better and I just hope people will help in that, rather than complaining about how another game was released better or how they are so angry because they feel cheated. If you are angry, it is understandable, but than just get a refund or if you want to help make the game better so you don't feel cheated than do that.
Yeah, if you actually install the "fan" patch I think most of the memory leaks are dealt with. I don't think I've had any crashes in MoM for years. And yes, you had to dodge about 5 different insta-win wizard customizations. After that, the game was quite challenging. The only shame, of course, was the AI, and not in the way that you might think. In almost all cases, they were guarenteed to declare war on you every single game regardless of how friendly your rela
Okay, if the game was not meant to be finished and polished, the ethical thing Stardock should have done was to write on the game box "by the way, this game is unfinished and unpolished." When a game is boxed and sitting on the shelf, the consumer assumes that if it is $50, it is a finished game. I personally don't care about a polished game. I'm in it for the modding tools. All of my favorite games are mods of pre-existing games. I even said about 2 w
Quoting cephalo, reply 81 Part of the problem here was that the beta testers kindof lied in terms of how things were going. There were way too many 'yes men'. There was almost no beta to speak of, and yet most beta testors still seemed to expect greatness. Here's Denryu's poll from the end of beta. Most people seemed to assume the game would be ready. https://forums.elementalgame.com
quoting post For me the biggest fear is that it is going to feel like GalCiv but with different graphics. Don't get me wrong, I love Gal Civ, I just don't want two copies. My biggest hope is that it feels like I am playing an upgraded version of Master of Magic, I hope this game is truly the "spiritual successor" of MoM! <br
Once you understand the game mechanics, there are just a littany of ways to obliterate the AI. Deinedez said it best. There are about 10 ways to win every single time on the hardest difficulty with just forward momentum alone. Half the time I get so tired of conquering and managing all of the extra cities I'm heaping into my empire that I don't even bother building in them. So basically to compound the problem of the game being too easy, I have to b
In regard to the OP, i t isn't and it may or may not be. Obviously, I really, really want it to be, as would be evidenced by my persistent lurking of these forums. To tell you the truth, I sort of in a dazed and disillusioned state (that's how much I was looking forward to this game. Sad?) My greatest hope at the moment is that someone like Raven X will make a mod for the game that will be remarkable. The game so far is a mess by my perception which ma
Very sound advice. The last piece of advice is the most important of all--- don't rush your product--- is the most important of all and to it I'd add just one more piece. ADMIT that you rushed your product and that it is unfinished. As of now, all I've been seeing from the devs and from Frog is dodginess in that regard. If they don't admit to us, and themselves, that the game was rushed and unfinished, then there's going to be a good chance that their next game is
Yes, your ideas are a definate improvement. I don't even know where to begin with my grievances about city building. Radical is exactly the word I was looking for.
Yes, cohesion is definately one of the biggest problems. As a matter of fact, I even wrote a fable about it! https://forums.elementalgame.com/393204 Anyway, I've been saying the same thing for quite some time, but I use a different phrase: Elemental lacks Consilience. In other words, different parts of the game don't have logical connections that serve one another. To the contrary, a lot of the game features are m
Yes, yes, and yes Gorgon, my thoughts exactly. The lore has encumbered the game terribly and in many ways. The game was made to give the player the feel as though they were playing in a new and exciting fantasy world each time... except that it is also supposed to make you feel as though you are specifically part of an unchangeable system of lore. From the very start, you have a complete counterdiction. The second problem with the lore is that i
Yes, the OP is on the right track. As of now, the I feel no connection to my cities. In Master of Magic I could remembered pretty much all of my city names--- and that isn't just because they weren't named Urbeshrebeknak like they are in Elemental. They were placed in meaningful places in the landscape and organically fit in to certain niches.
In regard to the OP: 1. yes 2. yes 3. yes 4. yes 5. yes 6. yes 7. yes 8. yes And in the event that you make a 9... probably yes.
Lol, I consider myself about as mature and almost downright prudish as a person could possibly be, and I thought the name of the site, the banner, etc. was properly placed and clever (the review was very amusing). The main reason is that, well, there is a lot of crap out there in the world of games. I guess you might take offense to it the same way that you would take offense to George Carlin, but the crassness is actually a strategic mechanism, not just something to giggle at.</p
Hmm just want to say to OP that unit fesign to me is one of the best features of the game... can't usually wait to see what new things i can make, and whther it's worth it in terms of materials.
Yes, I imagine it is fun for a lot of people, but the "cool effect" has no bearing what so ever on the balance of the game. Of course I would like the idea of having unit design be balanced and relevant, but I'm not sure
Quoting pmaura, reply 1 Elemental is not a genre breaking game and when you are going to make a game in a specific genre such as 4x civ game, you look at whats conisdered the current bench mark and then decide to either copy or expand not retract. I disagree. Elemental aims to add RPG attributed to a TBS. Purchasing equipment for heroes, going on quests and the marriage system, all combined, ma
Boyd, I am a player very similar to you. I generally jack the difficulty way up when I first play a game and I'm a very critical thinker. Personally, the only time I was challenged by the game was when I was learning the mechanics. After that? It's very, very easy unless you create an intricate web of houserules to penalize yourself. Oddly, the difficulty level can actually weigh in on the player's advantage. So my opinion is that you should keep yo
Yeah, the OP, of course, has a good point. Aside from being an all around bad game mechanism, linking movement speed with attack speed and casting speed is simply ludicrous and anti-intuitive idea. Not sure who came up with that idea or how they came to a consensus on it.
Quoting Demiansky, reply 12 If only Stardock had actually made a sequal to Master of Magic rather than dart off into uncharted territory. I think ELemental would be in much better shape if they had stuck to more of the core elements of the classic. And then we would have lots of people complaining about it not being innovative enough or similar stuff. Feels like Dawn of War 2 case or Starcraft 2 case. Both oppos
