I've always thought the easiest way to fix some of the abuse is make techs less valuable the more races have it. So if you have 8 races in the game (7 AI, 1 player) So if 3 of the AI have plasma and 4 don't you'll have a harder time getting it than if 6 have it and only 1 doesn't. This would also stop some of the abuse. You would need to research something that no one has to get really good value, but after you make that first trade with it, you get less value from the 2nd tr
Is it more optimal to specialize or generalize your planets?
Specialization is more effective but also requires more player effort and management. I tend to specialize but lately I've been putting 1 farm and 1 stock market on anything PQ7 or better even if that planet is going to be a monster research or manufacturing planet (and yeah sometimes depending on the victory I'm going for I've turned PQ15+ planets into research monsters). Part of the reason for the farm is t
About the planet swindle... I tried it and it took a loooong time to flip back even with a influence SB overhead. Other than that, very useful! You didn't happen to have the Mind Control Center built did you? It does the opposite of what the description says. It, in fact, makes flipping planets much harder.
Lovely. Is there a way to mod it back to what it is supposed to do? I decided to play an "Evil Influence" game where I'm playing an evil race but I will never declare
And then simply modified one of the stock .xmls by changing a couple parameters - and then resaving to a different name... drenginx.xml for example.AND that didn't work either...
The stock race files need to be the stock race names. So what you need to do is rename all the stock .xml files first or just copy them to a different folder called "Stock races" or whatever so you can copy them back later. Then you can copy the ones from your old machine over to the i
Hi!I'm pretty sure that defense is done as follows. If you have say 4/16/ 4 it ends up being the appropriated defense + the square root of the other two. That would be dread Lords combat, where defenses stack. In Dark Avatar they roll separately. For more info you may find usefull wiki article: Ship combat.BR, Iztok
Ah, so good to know I was right and I was wrong. I just got Dark Avatar and didn't realize the combat system had been revamped that much. I'll look forward
Regarding defenses, I'm not one to do much mathematical analysis on the game like others have taken the time to do and then graciously share. I pretty much just go by feel. It seems to me, I get the best results by spreading all three defense types across the board. In other words, a typical huge hull fighter late game might have around 150 attack and 30 defense in each of the three defense types. Those ships seem to take more abuse than a ship with a particular defense type, even com
