Where do people get the idea that "LAN" automatically means no internet connection? LAN only means you have a bunch of networked computers. Having an internet connection or not doesn't change anything. Playing a game with a computer on the network hosting, and playing with every computer on the network connecting to an online server are both "LAN'. It's a term independent of gaming, making this whole debate silly.
I guess t
Quoting Polynomial, reply 181 Yes! Why do you think Stardock OWES you unlimited LAN!? They're a business! Unlimited LAN is a terrible business model! Says the view of a short term profit... longterm profit means focusing more on getting as many people as possible to play the game first instead of placing complex security methods to financially absorb as many custo
Wow...you guys really don't think things through, do you? Frogboy left the thread b/c ya'll were really starting to upset him over the whole lan nitpicky thing, and you do realize that he is the one that decides how many of his company's resources go into multiplayer, if any. I am not a software company CEO, nor do i play one on tv, but if I saw these posts and I was in charge, you'd see multiplayer support sometime in 2012, if ever. The man
Quoting Polynomial, reply 120 In regards to singleplayer take a look at what it has done for the Galactic Civilization forums... barely any responses for months. Makes me almost want to use a shotgun and put it out of its misery. I can easily list many older multiplayer games where the forums are still buzzing with conversations and new stuff. While I definitely play BOTH singleplayer and multi
Quoting Frogboy, reply 48 The only downsides are for those users who expect to have 1 license serve all their friends or LANs that have no Internet access at all. Not reasonable for a middle or lower class family where the father has 5 sons and/or daughters above 8 years old... $300.oo just so the family can play the game together... PLUS multiply the cost if they wish to pl
Yeah, but it's not really "LAN play" because you happen to be able to play it on a LAN. If you remove the LAN and connect everyone directly to the Internet, you can keep playing. If you remove the Internet and keep the LAN, you can't. It'd be more accurate to call it "Internet play" that happens to continue to work if people are sharing the same Internet connection. I said earlier it doesn't bother me a lot, and I mean t
Just because you find it difficult to believe does not mean it doesn't happen. LAN support is LAN support, there's no ambiguity. If I have a LAN (with or without internet, it doesn't matter), it should work. If it doesn't, then LAN by itself is not supported.
As you pointed out, my response was just my opinion, so I'll point this one out for you: it is only your opinion
Technically (and historically), "LAN play" means you need a LAN to play. If I have a LAN, I can play Starcraft 1 with my friends. I can't play Starcraft 2, and I can't play Elemental with just a LAN. The LAN is actually incidental, what I really need is the Internet. This is a departure from Sins of a Solar Empire, which had a very player-friendly option to have two players on LAN with only one serial number. Shame that's gone
You cant really expect devs today making a multiplayer system that works best for internet play and a different one for LAN. They don't have to. Like I said just release the server binaries and we can all set up our own servers on LANs and all will be well. As it is the game will not include any LAN support at release, which makes me sad.
It doesn't
And people hate elves why exactly?
They are too generic. Like most of LoTR's races they have become standard fair in just about every fantasy game out there. There is only so many stereotypical city-building high elves or treehugging wood elves I can stand... I use steam, but I regret purchasing a number of Indie titles on it because I have to wait several extra weeks after patch releases to get it on steam versions of the game. Steam has become fat and bloated, which makes Impulse look better and better. Still waiting on the latest Sword of the Stars patch on Steam...
