I was surprised that WinCustomize didn't have a mobile version. I tried running WC on my new Android Smartphone today to check on my new screenshot, and I had to zoom in a few times before typing in the search box. WC does indeed need a mobile version of the site. Like migrating from Windows XP to Seven, this site needs to get with the times and develop a mobile version (even if it's limited). That's just my two cents.
I prefer to just put my computer into sleep mode and also turn the monitor off when I leave to save electricity. Screensavers are pretty, but do waste quite a bit of electricity or battery power (by keeping the monitor on). I use no power management options because I almost always put my computer to sleep manually when I leave (except when streaming video). I installed the driver for my PCI-e card, and redid the benchmark. The 4k QD32 tests increased SIGNIFICATNTLY. Read speeds went from 26 to 112! Write was even better for 4k QD32. It went up from 22.58 to 153.9! 4k Read speeds went from 13.89 to 27.03. The 512k Read speeds increased too (from 293 to 348), but the write was about the same. Most apps load in under one second (some up to two) and the Desktop loads in about 5 seconds after bootup. BUMP! (Hey, it's my thread.) Okay. I have been experimenting with system fans, voltages, and splitters for a while now. Through a network of fan splitters and molex connectors (my rig's a MESS inside, I only have a mid-tower case), I am now able to "supercharge" (run 12 volts instead of 5) 3 of my fans, (the CPU cooler, the rear case, and a side fan i'm holding in place with duct tape (where my HDD used to be). It's the feature below the skins, the "Background Texture" option (with the thumbnail slider) was what I was referring to. The texture can be blended with the Skin is what i'm saying. I already knew that Tiles was skinnable. I just didn't know about the background texture part. Having a skin and separate texture adds a deeper level of customization. And this is without using the editor. Totally worth my $5.
I watched part of the video and decided to not only install Tiles on my host machine but purchase 3 of the features as well (skin support, taskbar support, and custom pages). Tiles is pretty cool once these extra features are added in. It's like a more functional Windows Sidebar. Not to mention you can add whatever picture file you want as a background. I tried Tiles on a virtual machine. It's okay. I do like how when you switch to a different window, it can fill the screen. It's better than Alt+Tab no doubt. One thing puzzles me. Why does this FREE program require you to PAY for extra features?
The buttons could of at least of been schemed to match your WB. (Including Metro, if anybody really wants that. [e digicons]:S[/e] ) But it looks like it's designed to cut straight to the point, not bloated like Impulse was.
It seems there has been a lot of speculation about Windows 8 as of late. Microsoft is trying very hard to "please everybody", but they seem to be forgetting certain markets. This is like Windows 98 all over again. But wait...Win98 icons used more colors than this. I could go into MS Word 2010 and apply a simple bevel to these icons, and it would look a million times better already. *runs SSDLife* I'm skeptical whether my OCZ Vertex 2 is really gonna last 'til July 30, 2020. That's seems a bit unbelievable. It powered on 853 times (I put my computer into Sleep mode a lot), has worked 858 hours (1 month, 5 days, 18 hours) , and is reported to be at 100% Health. This may of been said already, but can't you just run Virtual PC from Win8 and run an ISO disk image of an older OS? Who knows, maybe Virtual PC will no longer be compatible with the new OS. Not every program needs to be flashy. When it comes to updater software, Functionality>Aesthetics. I only use Impulse for purchasing and updating Stardock software anyway.
Tell me about it. I only do updates about once a month, manually. I NEVER allow Windows do update automatically. That will @#*& up my system. Always choose your updates so you don't get a bunch of BS installed on your machine. Fences is Awesome! My Desktop wouldn't be the same without it. [e digicons]:thumbsup:[/e] It's especially cool with Large icons (128px). Although it does have some quirks, especially when it comes to changing to/from fullscreen. Other than that, it's the best! What could possibly be better than having an organized, clean desktop, while showcasing your awesome icons?
This is totally unexpected! (Maybe it was expected and I just wasn't following) I wonder if Apple will become the new Microsoft and slowly decline over the years, after Bill Gates stepped down way back in the day. If so, who will replace Apple? Linux? But Linux is non-profit, as they sell their OS for nothing, so that's not it. Maybe Google will (I hope not).
I've noticed many newer installers these days (not just Download.com) have all sorts of Toolbar, Change Home Page additions. I find them to be annoyances. I also have another site to add to the list, Softpedia.com I don't normally use it, so I don't know if they're following a Download.com trend or not.
