To beat steam Impulse needs to get as good as steam first. At the moment the only thing Impulse does better than steam is that you can actually choose where to install the software. On the content side Impulse is still lacking, and not only because of fewer titles but also how these titles are presented. You basically copy steam there. You do the same thing they do but have fewer titles. Steam wins. I think what both services really lack is an ability to browse t

We usually use IClassName for interfaces (pure abstract classes). Also, never use a bool as argument to change the behavior of a function call. Make two functions, or pass an enum with a descriptive name.

Usually researching 3 items at once will only split the research efforts thin, - researching one at a time would yield the three techs in the same amount of time, but the player benefits from the effects of the technologies earlier. Would 'research without penalty' mean the player has effectively tripled his research output, or is research based on random success rolls, so researching three techs at once increases the chance on a success? Otherwise multiple research is a red her

- Does the game emphasize building or battle? - What types of multiplayer gameplay will be available (hotseat/PBEM/LAN/Implulse hosted/cooperative/ladder/....) - How disruptive/powerful will endgame spells become - What happens when the Channeler dies I think these questions produced some of the larger threads,

The posters with the WoW comparison had it about right I think. Instead of punishing the malfeasant, reward the sportsman. (Give points for winning, less points for losing, possibly scaled by ranking difference between teams, and give no points for disc/quitting) To prevent /afk a simple ready check is enough (I think no one can be playing the game for more than 2 minutes without pressing buttons...) And to prevent afk bots (a tool that pushes buttons automatically to

Short answer: Bad idea. Why is that? Basically I see two possible options for those buildings: The same buildings always has the same shape (can also be used as an advantage / disadvantage: e.g. Faction A has especially small archeries) Depending on the city location or plain randomness building sizes differ Option 1. would require the player to figure out an 'optimal' city layout. After this has been learn

Ah, and there have been examples of mixing magic and technology in a fantasy universe. Following the path of technology yields diminishing returns in the magic department - can be an interesting twist but I personally don't like it. But - I think a mild technological advancement can be very interesting, e.g. usually dwarves are considered more advanced in mining and construction. Stuff like that can be transported into the game by a research system.

The strategical movement can also make room for some nice mechanics. Consider improving travel speed by packing up heavy armor in carts, which would increase travel speed but reduce readiness - A surprise attack will catch the troops un- or lightly armored or maybe even unarmed. Traveling in full armor will net less distance per turn, but if something goes wrong there are no queues at a supply wagon. Assuming transportation like that you can move troops to the fr

Apocalyptic game enders don't have to be enchantment spells - 'Guardian of Caer Bannog' - Conjures the epic creature. Unprepared opponents will not stand a chance. Watch out for the teeth!

Yep but not liked too much by the community. I think there should be many devastating spells, that harm most but not all aspects of the game. E.g your silver death: killing most living things can be a good thing if you make a habit of animating corpses as troops, or do not use living troops (e.g. animated stone creatures: Golems, Gargoyles) Why else would anyone cast spell like that :)
When I click on a city and want to see how long it will take for my squad of Paladins to be made it will still say "9 turns" but that 9 turns will be now based on:
Does this means unit sizes are fixed? So you design Squads consisting of n Units armed with Weapon x and Armor y, Riding z ?
Devs said in another thread that it would be simultaneous turns.
As I understand the Impulse hosted games it will be sort of PBEM then, you just don't send your turn as email attachment but via Impulse / from within the game. Where is that thread? I couldn't find it :/

PBEM only really works with simultaneous move systems. How are turns resolved for Elemental? I'd say that one central game mechanic is already set in stone. Tell us pleeeeeeeease, I want PBEM mode, too :)

@Leinad) Several possibilities for land based humans. First - what can they base their strategy around? E.g. strict non magic users, only regular troops. Armageddon - Void magic, magic is impossible. Kills all magic creatues. Other idea: Holy fanatics - Armageddon Wrath of 'Supernatural Being' will smite the souls of nonbelievers (e.g. those following pagan nature magic, but not those having no soul) I'm just brainstorming not actually balancing all available strategies against each o

Hiho, You did promise spells of great effect that will alter the world itself, here's what I consider strong magic :) - and, I find - an elegant solution to end game: Armageddon. I'd like to see such a mechanism in the game - but not in the likes of archon II, populous, MoM (Spell of Mastery) or GalCiv (Research Victory) I would prefer a way that makes endgame armageddon a goal to base one's strategy around during the game, and to make it not a one shot game

Being the pessimistic guy I am I can very easily imagine the DRM enhancements you describe. Many people have had great ideas in this direction, including the OS enforcing a white list of programs allowed to access files of known media content. This would mean, the OS does not grant access to your mp3s to any program not explicitely allowed by some instance not under your control. Your home written mp3 player could not play back the file - which might be a good idea since it maybe would
