I hate when something causes me to stop debugging to make a change. Especially when I'm doing development on one of our websites. *Stop* *Make change* *Restart Debugging* *Wait for the website to load up(takes forever when debugging)* *Log into test account* *Navigate through layers of pages to get to the page I was working on* ... *Etc* Never had any issues with external drives though, my development folder is just on my C drive.

That system sounds great. I've never really thought much of the diplomacy text in TBS games since most of it is rather generic and dull. This system sounds like it could change all of that.
Diversity is definitely the way to go with resources. More resources will encourage trading and warmongering to get the resources you don't have (as long as said resources are actually useful). I loved Civilization 4 but one of the things that really bothered me about the game was that: 1. Trading resources was near useless for the majority of the resources that existed in the game. Since for most of them they were really only useful if a city was working the tile they were on. <
I fully support the idea of having an extended beta.
Nice post. Lots of good info.
Hmm, intersting. It has always annoyed me that in other TBS/4X games you can only research one thing at a time. I've never quite understood why every other game is like that when it doesn't really make that much sense. If simultaneous researching of techs stays in I will be very happy.
Even without shadows the screens look great. I love the art style that the team is going with, as I find it rather fitting for a fantasy world.
Nice new screens. It is a bit dissapointing that the beta won't start until September but I guess I'll just have to find other games to play until then. Also more editor pics please - that tile editor looks might interesting.
The AI in Galactic Civilizations 2 was pretty good. I'm eager to see what the AI will be like in Elemental.
I love this concept of starting off with a single person and building a huge empire. With every journal entry I become more excited for Elemental.
It sounds quite amazing. Hopefully the game doesn't change too much from how it is described here, as games tend to do when they have ambitiuous features involved.
Looks fun. I love messing around with map editors.
As someone who has spent hundreds (if not thousands) of hours playing the Civilization and Galactic Civilization games I can say that Camp 1: "Sophisticated" sounds far more enjoyable. For people who don't want that level of micro-management you can always put in an option to let the AI handle it (much like how you can have the AI handle virtually everything in the game for you in Civilization if you so choose). Camp 2 is pretty much what every other TBS/4X game goes wi
I'm very dissapointed to hear that you are killing off the bot idea. When I first heard about it in that journal post of your's I was quite excited for it. A game like Elemental is a perfect fit for bots. The reason everyone hates the bots in Demigod is because they suck for that genre of game and they simply are not fun to play against. However, in the TBS/4X genre bots are (IMO) far more fun to play against than humans (in my limited experience with Civ's online every
I like the bit about adventurers going around and exploring dungeons on their own. Little things like that help the world to feel alive and just make the game more fun. I also like how micromanagement is more or less optional, some aspects of the game I expect I will want to control every little detail of and others I will be content to let the AI handle stuff automatically. Also a question: Are the trade caravans just aesthetic or can we actually attack them to disrupt
The idea is, if it's a good game, it should be reasonably fun even without fancy graphics.
I couldn't agree more. Graphics enhance a game but they won't make a crappy game good. In the past I've played and enjoyed text only MUDs and roguelikes so a game with "only" a cloth map wouldn't bother me one bit. Of course, that isn't to say that I won't appreciate the extra graphics that will be present.
So I guess neither of you played the original master of magic? (I got my copy about 16 years ago, which I assume most people did)
Nope never played it. However, I do occasionally play really old games that I missed playing when I was growing up or that came out when I was too young to have played them. Graphics don't matter much to me; if a game is fun I'll play it.
I never preorder games, except for Stardock games that is. In fact I've been playing games for 15+ years and the first game I ever preordered was Twilight of the Arnor after I picked up Galatic Civilizations 2 (gold pack I think, the one with vanilla and the first expansion) on a whim and got hooked. I had never actually heard of Stardock before that but now I've purchased every one of their major releases since then(Sins, Demigod, etc.) Allowing paying customers to get
