I haven't even clicked the campaign button in WOM. Civilization is wildly popular.... without a campaign.

It was a description of what they were aiming to do in an interview with a video game magazine. You could say that the picture on the box isn't representative of what the game is, and I'd say you're right. But this Total War this is just nonsense.
I accepted long ago that it wasn't going to be Total War esqu
Right now it isn't even remotely like Total War. I too was disappointed when the combat system switched. Would have been pretty much awesome to have Total Ware style battles in a fantasy setting, with a TBS strategic map.
Will give it a go. Thanks
any pics?
Lords of Magic, for all of its problems, did a great job at varying the terrain.
from my POV, it is the unfortunate byproduct of going to TB battles
Hola - Been playing a Large map with 3 opponents. Game r ran ather somewhat smoothly (other than a battlefield bug and a the unable to end turn auto-explore bug). I got to turn 350ish, and the game starts CTDing. It seems to happen right after a battle, but I've been unable to recreate the precise cause. I am using a custom Kingdom and a custom sovereign. Performance is getting better! Needs a bit more work on that front, but game is already starting to really shape up!
Game has its flaws, but it is actually pretty good. Played it all weekend and enjoyed myself, despite some frustration with slow-downs, quirky UI, and lack of info. Should be in good shape after a couple more patches.
Not that you need anyone else chiming in - but my game gets steadily worse performance as the turns add up: Operating System: Windows Vista™ Ultimate (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.100608-0458) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: Gateway System Model: P-173XL FX BIOS: Ver
I haven't had any crashes, but the game is really choppy as the turns progress. Not abnormal, but a little frustrating for a game that was touted as being able to run on netbooks
Hopefully more performance improvements as well
Unfortunately I don't know how much RAM was being used. I was getting ready for bed, so I didn't concern myself with it too much. However, it did work fine on a restart.
Played the game with the new patch for about 2.5 hours tonight. Around 2 hours in, the sound effects started cutting out in battles. It started with no sound for arrows fired from Archers, then spread to all attacks from all units, and then eventually spread to the strategic map. This happened over the course of 5 - 10 turns. I am a big fan of Fidgit and Tom Chick. I don't always agree with him, but his critiques are usually spot on. The difference is that people hold the severity of his critiques differently. For example, he and I had the exact same issues with StarCraft 2. For me, it made the game boring and I put it down in a matter of days. For him, it was easy enough to overlook that he became immersed in the game (or so I gathered from his game diaries). Same critiques

People read in to it what they want (or don't want) to read. LAN means local area network and if a game has lan support it should not require internet servers to play on a LAN. If it would just check if the game is legal it might still be c
Just a thought but, what if the borders were to convey more useful information than simply the edge of an empire. For example, imagine your country has borders with three neighbors; a hostile neighbor to the north, a friendly neighbor to the east, and a western neighbor in anarchy (uncontrolled, perhaps like the "bandit" example in the OP). The northern (hostile) border might reveal a small but imposing looking wall with i
I'm still not happy about the ease with which you abandoned perhaps the most intriguing (IMO) aspect of the game (continuous turns)... but the combat better not be like HoMM or Kinds Bounty. I don't care what you do as long as it is better than that drivel.
Damnit I wrote up a big wall of text but the forums ate it! Oh well. I'm worried that the promised grandeur of tactical combats will be lost by going to turn based combat. I've probably spent a full year's time worth of my life playing games with turn-based tactical combat, and I can't recall a single situation where I've thought "Ohh I can't wait to watch this battle!" There is just nothing exciting about watching one stack do its
Bummer about the nixing of the RT combat. I was really looking forward to that as the turn-based battles are often pretty formulaic and can get tedious. Still excited about the game though, I will probably just sim more battles.
This long time lurker votes for Factions/Lore first.... but really I want both and don't understand why it can't be done.
Tropico 3 does a good job with this system... take a look at that.
One thing I would love, but may not be possible, would be lots of different models for the same type of building. I love building the massive cities in ANNO, but I always feel like each block feels the same. The more models, the better.... perhaps using specific models based upon what surrounds the building (sooty houses when next to a blacksmith, houses built into slopes, adobe buildings in desert climates, etc.) While it wouldn't directly influence gameplay, it woudl g
I've been reading a lot of folks on here talking about battles as if they turn-based. My understanding when I read this stuff awhile ago was that the battles were to be real-time ala Total War series. Has that changed, or am I just crazy and thinking of the wrong game? Total War does a lot of things right for battles in that environment. They've implemented an experience system, terrain bonuses, fatigue system, and morale system. For the most par
