One more thing... the "lost" metal and crystal from mines with poor allegence? Put that into the "market" as well to be bought or sold by other players. After all... we can assume people still work, but just don't pay their taxes far from the capital. Those resources go somewhere.

So, right now the Black Market is an infinate well of resources, with a slight reaction to trade volume, a little volatility... but basically just noise on top of buying resources for 4.5, selling for 2.5. What if the market was really a market.. a closed system for resources? Have all the independent planets producing resources and selling continuously, according to planetary resources available. This would ultimately limit supply. As players take over the m

Consider two situations (I'm totally fudging the numbers to make the point as clear as possible): 1) Trade port that pays for itself in 15 mins, and generates 2 creds / minute of value 2) Refinery that pays for itself in 30 mins, and generates 3 creds / minute of value Short run, the trade port is a better deal here, per RA's ROI argument. Long run, and assuming all logistic slots are full, Refinery is the better deal here -- because it allows me to make

I think Lawyers can be compared to nuclear weapons in terms of utility. They are entirely useless -- no one ever profits from them, and using them usually results in a loss for both sides. We all need them, though, because if we don't have them the other guy will. Also, even when storing your own, being in close proximity to them is bad for your health. I know a few good people are lawyers. It's not that they ALL deserve to be placed in internment camps --

On a more serious note, it might not make much sense strategically for Canada to spend the resources on a larger military force. Same with Japan, and much of western Europe. The reason is the US -- at least for the moment, all of these countries know that the US depends on them economically, and can therefore be depended on to defend them from a more direct attack. All have a significant ability to defend themselves as well (except Japan -- but that is due to treaty d

Individual US states aren't allowed to form a military. Wait... Canada isn't a state yet? Sorry. [e digicons][/e] *DUCKS*

I don't dispute the math you've done RA, but I think there is one factor missing in your analysis: the cost in terms of logistics slots. Not the cost of developing, but the fact that the refinery or trade port sits there and sucks up slots. Your analysis compares return on investment -- which one pays off quicker in terms of creds and resources only. This is entirely valid if we assume that you haven't filled all the logistics slots in your empire. Once you have run

So, the first time I heard the voice acting for the TEC Flak Frigate ("I heard you have a fighter problem.... let's swat some flies") I couldn't help but think of Bruce Campbell. (ala the Evil Dead movies) Who did the voice for that guy? Is the similarity intentional? I swear, I paused the game and checked the credits file thinking I'd found a camio. Anyone else think the same thing?

Makes perfect sense. Thanks for the answer. I certainly am not bothered at the minimal copy protections that you guys impose, but it's nice to stay aware of what is operating to avoid problems. I'm impressed with Impulse, btw. It's the most user friendly commercial software distribution mechanism I've seen. I only feel compelled to post this because I just got done reading multiple DRM flame wars on this forum... thought you guys would like to know that

Hello, I understand that the license explicitly allows me to install the game on two (of my) computers. I've got the game on a laptop currently, and I plan on installing it on a desktop as well. If I played a LAN game with a friend via this setup, would that be in the spirit of the license? I understand from a previous post that it would probably WORK... but since you guys have been pretty good about not keeping me from copying the game for my own uses, I thought I

Hi there, I just moved my Sins install from one laptop to a different one. When I went to uninstall it from the original laptop, I started by uninstalling the Impulse client, and then went to uninstall the game itself. I got a message that "Impulse is Required for Uninstall". No problem -- I can download the impulse client and uninstall the game. This raises a question, though. When I uninstall through impulse, is there an "install count" being decremen
