Yeah that sounds like a reasonable idea as well. More dynamic upkeep like Warcraft 3 had. If you get owned, going back down to no upkeep while you rebuild would help a ton to recover. Maybe make it an option when starting a game to have "Dynamic Upkeep".

Changes look pretty good, I would like to eventually see a slider so those of who want fast and frequent pirate raids of epic intensity can have that game, and others can slide it down to 'No Pirates' or "Raid every 2 hours" if they want. Flexibility is a great thing and lets us all (well most of us anyway!) play the game the way we want. As for the bickering on this thread it is sad to see, I see no reason for any of it - this should be a community that is mature enough to make ration
Did you pay for the game twice? If you only bought it once the most you can use it on is 2 computers on a LAN, but doing that is still a bit tricky I think. Someone from IronClad will have to chime in on that..
Try disabling all connections except the LAN one. What he means is that Sins might be trying to grab the wrong connection (for instance your wireless one) and is therefore not seeing your friend on the LAN. Just right-click and choose "disable" to turn off all of them except the LAN connection.
Have you clicked on "create account" yet? Your forum name is not related to your IronClad Online account. You have to create an account on ICO using whatever handle you want, and your CD-key + whatever password you want. After that you can login and then need to hit 'Add Player' to add your handle you want to use when playing online games. After you do that, you should be good to go! Just hit "Use Player" and you will be in the main lobby!
Forgot to include an actual link for ya, here is one to download Hamachi: [link="http://www.hamachi.cc"]WWW Link[/link]
If nothing else, you can always use Hamachi to create a workable LAN (yes if you are already on your own LAN it seems rather silly but hey desperate times, desperate measures!). You can get it over at Hamachi.CC Basically, just download it on both computers and install it. Create a network on one and name it something. Then on the other one choose "Join Network" and type that in plus whatever password you set. Once you are both visible to each other in Hamachi (should have green dot
I absolutely loved the music that played over the cinematic on the first load and then into the main menu music. Great job on the music psugar!
Well, at least Tycho does. He is going to do a post on it on Friday. [link="http://www.penny-arcade.com"]WWW Link[/link] This is some of the best advertising that Sins can get, because not only will Penny Arcade allow them to advertise the game but they are going to recommend it in a probably lengthy post on Friday that thousands of readers will see and follow over here. Congrats to IronClad and if any incoming readers from Penny Arcade have questions that aren't answered in t
Super I love playing that way too! Hoping my friend's download goes quick tonight so we can play multiplayer that way!
A few random things you can try. Install the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer (2nd one down on this page): http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html Also, install the latest graphics drivers for your Radeon card located here: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/common-vista32 Just something to try while you wait on support..
Heh, will have to see. I should be available at some point this weekend. My online name will be the same as this forum handle as soon as I track down where my beta key went off to..
although its a nice idea, i just wont be able to get enough people in my network to ever play a game hahaha. it looks like im venting but im just faking it. i work at a it helpdesk and i know how painful computer/network issues are.
Been there done that before as well (helpdesk) as a student and full-time employee. I feel for ya :-P
Hey, just trying to be helpful. Read this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamachi about how Hamachi works and I think you will see there is nothing "bannable" about using it. It is merely a virtual private network and does not do port scanning or any such thing. All traffic is even encrypted over Hamachi. I'm not speaking as a clueless person here, I work in University IT and Networking (i'm a Network Analyst). As for what has changed between beta and release, I don't know. I had no
well then why cant i play, i have my firewall turned off and i keep getting "Disconnected from ironclad" BOOO
If you want to play with a friend who is off-campus (or on campus on a different sub-net) you can use the most wonderful program known as Hamachi to fake a LAN and tunnel through any firewall i've ever seen. Just go to http://www.hamachi.cc/ and download it for free. Setup the program then start up a new network, call it
I had really high hopes for this game, I still think its very well done. Unfortunately, the multiplayer support is abysmal. I've been unable to join or host any game and I've stared at my router settings longer than I would normally consider healthy. I'm spent. DidDO, this is the ONLY GAME i have ever played on my campus where i cant play multiplayer, i dont have access to the campuss access ports because......... im a studen
I've been having the exact same problem, haven't been able to play a MP game yet thanks to "connection failed:rejected by host" thing. It comes up for every single server on the browser.
This is likely the bug that Blair mentioned that should be fixed soon. Games that are already in progress are still listed as joinable even though they aren't. They said they will be fixing it in a new push to ICO (ironclad online) soon.
AudibleScholar if you could show a screenshot of your modem's interface where you are doing port forwarding that would help a ton like Durfoo did. The way each router handles it is always a touch different so it is helpful to see how yours is configured to make sure it should all work correctly.
Well im jsut curious. Do I have the ports forward corectly.
You need to have port 6112 forwarded to your local ip address. You can do that from "Single Port Forwarding". Just put 6112 in for the port number and then select "both" TCP and UDP port types.
Silly question but once you create the custom service, are you actually activating it? I say this because in a lot of routers, it is not really clear that when you go in and create a custom service and enter a port range etc. That you then have to go back, find that service in the list, enable it and sometimes even at that point tell it which computer name on your network (or IP address) to link it to. Also if there is already a service listed for Battle.Net (there usually is) you can
And yes phase gates are what you want to use if you want to jump along new jump lines. Basically just make two phase gates (they are high level research because that is a very powerful tool) and you can then jump between them like a normal phase jump but I believe it is a bit faster than a normal jump (it was in Beta anyway, not sure how it is in the final game as I have been playing Advent!).
Yes, I uh..feel sick. Does not getting enough sleep qualify as being sick if it is likely to lead to sickness eventually?
Yeah multiplayer vs. AI is my favorite thing to do, its wicked fun :-) Just be prepared for some long games though if you set it on normal speed and have a huge galaxy. Not that long games are a bad thing since you can save at any time and if the other player drops out you can just load back in from an autosave or you can let an AI player take over for your friend.
Just to provide a little bit more info on how it works. The AI in the game will ask you to do missions for it such as "Kill 4 of Faction X's trade ships" and reward you with positive standing with them and negative standing if you ignore them. These missions are timed and can have other rewards such as credits, crystal or metal. Once you build up enough favor with the AI, you can select a planet or ships I think and then when those enemy planets are selected you have the option to r
Hehe. I too got sucked in for longer than I intended yesterday. I helped do some beta testing back during Beta 3 and also played Beta 4 some. The difference between beta 4 and the final game is amazing! I love the new interface and the idea of the missions that the AI players give you so you can gain (or lose!) status with them is great. That way I know somewhat how they view me and it also gives me something fun to try for if I want. Haven't got very far in a game yet, but I think
