I didn't want the reigns in the first place. For the first 3 years of the game's development I was hands off. I only took the reigns this Sprin

I hope he's as vocal as you are. Stardock is my company of choice because of the open communication channels you guys have. I've been a windows blind user for years because of that! That being said I can't wait to see whats in store!
[quote who="Frogboy" reply="85" id="2790630"] Well the fact that Elemental is built off a new engine is hardly an excuse for it's issues. It may be a reason, but not an excuse. What does that even mean? If the context is that I should hang up my hat as a game designer then yea, it's quite relevant. It boils down to 'the engine wasn't ready' instead of 'elemental wasn't ready', both equate to
Awwww no Hotseat that I can see. :(
[quote who="ColonelFlagg" reply="250" id="2782300"]Yeah it's not all bad; natural wonders are interesting (kinda Alpha Centauri like when you discover those named areas, even if they're not significant game-wise). And I was confused at first about it saying 4 horses at the top of the main screen: I thought it was because the horse tile had 4 horses in it So does that mean you can supply 4 cities with horses or what? I think I'm gonna go with A Game of Thrones: I played it wi
[quote who="ColonelFlagg" reply="247" id="2782216"]I just played the demo, and I don't think I can go from Civ4 BtS to Civ5: it just feels like I'm losing a lot, especially in complexity. No, Civ5 isn't quite CivRev (which I hated), but it is definitely dumbed-down in my opinion. No city health management, automatic "no-rush" game mode by having cities with their own defense stat (it's a freakin chore just to take down this city-state; I don't mean hard, but just boring

My cousin only wants civ 5 for example. He wont buy Elemental because he doesnt want to buy both games. Instead he would rather search through craigslist and buy 100s of dollars of Star Wars toys. Priorities. Different strokes for different folks. Anyway I wrote my impress
Just got done playing a 5 hours session. I played as the Washington (americans) on a huge continents map type. Normal speed. 12 AI opponents and 24 city states. First impression for a second was "oh no this looks like the console interface" few seconds later "thank god I was wrong" Much like civ 4 this game is a blast to play. If you've played any civ game you can jump right in. The interface is alright. Not great but its not horrible either. The graphics are e
For some reason if you are an indy developer you have to develop at least one game that is a puzzle game or one game thats all artsy. Or you can do both!
I choose to get both since they both fill different needs for me.
@wayninja Hey did hang around the neverwinter nights 1 and 2 forums? I seem to remember you from there. on topic: I'm all for epicness sure, but for me I have some things I'd rather seen tweaked or fixed for now. I thinking adding a system like that, while there is still balancing and bugs in place will make things harder for everyone.
Its hard to compare elemental and Civ5. Sure they are both turn based strategies, but a car and a motor cycle are both modes of transportation. They differ in many different ways and supply completely different experiences. That being said I'm going to pick up Civ 5 as well as the copy I have of elemental. I see no reason not to I alreadly really like Elemental and I can myself liking where it is going. I'm pretty sure I'm going to like Civ 5. I have a feeling though that Civ
I'm 28 and and I still remember growing up with the classic PC games. My friend James had a very expanive computer while we were growing up. I remember he had a sleep over and we all started to play Contra trying to beat it for nintendo (very fun game). Anyway while wiating for my turn I wandered over to his computer (his Dad's actually) and fired it up (after asking if it was okay). I remember playing mech warrior, Master of Magic, Pools of Radiance and later on, in high school Dagge
Well I like the game. I like where it is going. However I often run multiple games at a time. Which means my patience for any fixes that it might need is very large. However I enjoy the core game. I read the book and it was a good book and a good primer for the elemental universe. I think a strong point for the game is the story and backstory. I also have a very demanding job and an equally time consuming girlfriend. My ability to refresh the forums looking for juicy posts or new patc
You guys seriously know how to make me smile after a long hard day at work!
I hope this game has a turn timer minute now that I think about it. There is a lot more decisions to be made than in Civ and those turns could take like 30 minutes! The tacticals battles alone could take some time. Designing units and redesigning units. Reading quest text. So many Civilization multi player sessions went unfinished because of people waiting and then leaving!
[quote who="Tridus" reply="275" id="2715092"] Quoting StormbringerGT, reply 270 And I'm not being sarcastic. I was curious if you bought or pre-ordered it. Pre-ordering anything is a risk. I work at Gamestop, trust me I know. Esepcially for a beta, so much can change between now and then. Features get cut and added. It's all "at your risk" which is why they usually keep Beta development in house. Yep. I did it on the basis of what they were saying would be in the game, an

If so, regardless of what 50 people post here the thousands who buy the game will out voice you. I bought it before beta 1, back when MP was going to have custom servers, modding, and various play modes. Thousands of people who want a SP only game are going to be happy I'm sure. I'm not one of them, and at the moment I care

If it's client-server, then 1) you don't have to worry about people opening ports (as most people find that sort of thing confusing and cumbersome at best), and 2) you don't have to worry about Jimbob User trying to host a game on his 486 with 56k dialup and making a horrible game for everyone else. To be honest and fair I want the Single Player game. So I suppose I am "one" of the people who this game is geared towards. If they toss in other multiplayer goodies, sweet. If not this game is worth the $50 to me for the Single Player experience. Its not whats right or wrong, its my opinion towards me and the product. Whatever camp you are in a lot of people are pretending their opinion is the right opinion and other peoples are wrong. I'm not going to
Wow! Ultimately it seems a couple people won't be buying or playing this game. Sucks to be them. I will. Hell I bought 2 copies just to show my support and that I'm cool with this system. And to counter set all those people who will use negative word of mouth I'll use positive. Already started. Mind you I'm not going to start shoving it down peoples throat at work. Just because the boards are dead for Galactic Civ 2 doesn't mean no one is playing it. I've noticed that even if a game sells like 500,00
