Picked up GC4 yesterday just before the release price bump and while it took me a bit of time to get used to some of the new systems, there's one main UI issue I have with the game, and that's how hard it now is to browse the tech tree. GalCiv3 had 4 buttons down the left side of the tech tree. Nice and easy, lets you switch between the expansion, engineering, warfare and diplomacy trees so you could check out other techs you aren't researching. Want to browse out the w

I know about those processes. I just got rather worried initially when I started the game the first time and saw that it was running 'Firewall Install'. Something like 'Firewallexception.exe' would be better in my eyes, since firewallinstall implies that it is installing a firewall. Its of no worry to me now, as I know that the .exe is and what its actually doing. However, I did worry the first time when I saw it running, having no idea what on earth it

Not so keen on the Rebels though, some great teamwork abilities, though I don't play too many games ti consider them

I just updated the beta, and noticed when I ran it that it, it ran 'firewallinstall.exe' as part of the setup. Now, I know that Stardock are a very reputable company so its not something I should really be worried about. However, I am extremely curious about this file, and why it is force ran on the first launch. Running it manually from the command line, it appears to simply be a program which automatically adds itself to the exception list of whatever firewall

I agree, I don't use any of the Social Networking platforms. And equally, I don't really want to see Stardock focussing on other platforms, I'm a PC gamer and I would rather they continue to make high quality PC games rather than trying to branch off onto other consoles.

I don't think Demigod will change now. For them, it's probably a commercial failure, so they move on. And you can't ignore Microsoft when they give you a job (AoE Online) It's just non-profitable... A patch costs a lot of money.
As mentioned above, that's completely

Actually Brad, that argument doesn't really hold water. As mentioned above, it seems to be entirely down to the publisher. I bought Supreme Commander Gold years ago via Impulse. Then about a month ago it was released on Steam, and a couple of weeks after that, it was possible to use the key provided via Impulse to activate Supreme Commander on Steam. Just opened the Gamestop Downloader, and used the 'look up serial number' command to get it to email me a list of all the CD keys fo

Wouldn't this cost Stardock though? I mean, when someone registers their copy of a game bought elsewhere, they then use Steam's bandwidth to download and update the game who knows how many times, plus it means they don't buy the game seperately on Steam. With steamworks games which you buy retail but then have to activate on steam to play, the cost of this is included in the game price, but I would assume that Valve would charge Stardock an ammount to generate steam keys for peopl

Last night I tried to download the 1.19 patch, and I got the above error when it came to actually extracting it. So I just uninstalled the game and redownloaded it, hoping this will fix the error, but I got exactly the same issue. I've just checked the temporary folder, and I see a 1.91Gb elemental1.19[b].123.impulse file there, so its downloaded fine, but Impulse doesn't seem to be able to extract it?

There is no way anybody could have an informed opinion this early in the game's life.
I was under the impression that most game companies sent off review copies of their games off before the game was even released? That way the magasines can print reviews and build up hype, so people can say 'look, it got 100% in PC Gamer, lets go buy it!'

The total ammount of RAM you have in a system isn't going to be all that relevant. A 32-bit process can only access 2Gb of ram. Its possible to make the program large address aware, which would allow it to use up to 3Gb of RAM, though this would also require an addition to the boot.ini files on systems running XP 32. However, this all depends on if this is a memory leak, or if the textures are simply so large that they are using up all the RAM. If its a leak, then this

Dear god, yes! It needs a tutorial! People saying 'watch the video tutorials' or 'check the forums', no! When I play a game, I would like the game to teach me how to play, not have to check websites in order to learn. The game was telling me that I should build a farm, I don't see it in the build page, I don't see it with my farmer selected, so I just forget about it. Come back to the forums, as I like to check them out anyway, and suddenly I know how to build a farm. </

Yes, I'm in the beta and have been for months. I've been in the beta on my PC, and just got a new laptop. I've installed Impulse, and several games, but not Elemental. I tried archiving it, and restoring the archive on my laptop. It restored fine, and is installed on my laptop. I can 'detect application' on the folder, and it says it will now appear in my games list. But it doesn't. I've tried restarting Impulse, and its still not there. Running elemental.exe loads the

Just updated to 1.01 with diplomacy, and I've hit a weird bug. I can use the up and left cursor keys to scroll the map. but the right/down arrows seem to be tempromental. My home planet is in the bottom right corner of a huge (multi) galaxy, and I don't seem to be able to properly scroll right near my planets but I can mousewheel zoom around, as well as pan as normal. The only reason I can think for this happening is because the game thinks the edge of the map is in a different place,

I'd tried disabling my firewall, but that d
