I also name the classes, but not the individual ships. I tend to name on a whim, and not according to any theme. Sometimes they're after people, sometimes animals, somtime random words. Usually a mix-and-match. Typically however if I think of one word, then the next comes to mind. If I make a "Led" class, then the next might be an "Ozzy" class. It also differs game to game (i.e. a Jethro class ship may be a defenceless scout one game, and the next might have a Jethro huge battle cruiser).
