Selling a revered PC game license to the Russkie developers is like casting pearls before swines. Akella has destroyed the Disciples property, and I seriously doubt future patches will earnestly address existing problems--of which there are legion.

If no, introduction of it would alleviate this problem--as well as make city-taking generally more difficult, complex, and fun. As of right now, units get a "hitpoint" bonus when in fortifications. I hope this changes.
That's it? Yes,
I actually wouldn't say Total War really favors the defender all that much - if anything I might say the opposite because you can just siege them while their numbers starve, forcing the defender then to become proactive, while there's no realistic option (mods excluded) to account for the fact that the besieging army would also be starving. The only reason TW really favors defenders is because in actual battles the AI tends to be completely bra

A quick addendum: It appears that the developer(s)' presumption is that extra modding will increase the game's appeal to the casual gamers. I find this presumption rather counter-intuitive as well as belied by my own experience. Granted that personal anecdotes are never determinative, but do I have a lot of casual gamer friends, and I cannot imagine a single one among them preferring to waste endless hours to mod essential game facets, as opposed to having the basic game fully-fleshed
This is a very good point. Chosing a faction/race or whatever should mean you are mainly using their units, strengths and weaknesses. Allowing you to use all the strengths of a conquered people tends to make all the games feel similar which isn't a good direction to go in. I also become less interested in playing other factions if I felt I already experienced what they have to offer in another game. It's b

This is the reason why I have yet to pre-order (and I almost always do whenever I see a promising fantasy strategy game).
I am really confused by this post from Stardock. And a bit exasperated. How can we do a poll when we haven't even seen what the factions will finally be like (tech trees, faction buildings, magic, 3D graphics ...)? Just the thought that such a poll would be the basis for a game changing decision gives me vertigo. Secondly, I don't understand what you mean with tradeoff in your post. Why can't we hav
You are seemingly forgetting that players will still want the A.I. factions to be fleshed out by the developer- consider that though almost everyone played with a custom faction in Galciv2, they were still happy playing against Drengin and Yor. So please don't liquidate your old ideas.
I agree with this. The lack of diversity in standard races is already my biggest objection in this game, and the new proposal gives th

Mr. Wardell, The most recent screenshots posted on this thread look rather messy, whereas the earlier tile-based screenshots looked very clean. I am not sure if this is progress. The bigger worry I have is that it appears from the recent screenshots that units will not be grouped into squads or regiments but will fight as a huge, isolated, chaotic mass ("mess"?) of men. Would not a squad or regiment-oriented tactical combat system be far superior given its intrinsic 1)
