My goal (and this isn’t a promise because it depends on how long it takes to do) is to make a Temple of Apshai mod (a classic RPG) using Elemental and give out to people complete with source so people could see what I did. Next… The tech tree…
So, Brad - How about that Temple of Apshai... any chance? ;-)

Who cares about the intro? You'll watch it 3-4 times, and then skip it every time you load up the game. I'd much rather have something like the shown that actually uses the artwork of the game, than some cgi movie that looks good the first time you watch it
Master of Orion was the friendliest game I ever played...when you quit the game, a window would appear, saying "Thank you for playing"...was just so nice... can we have this feature please?
You know, the more I think about it, I think the current approarch should be scrapped completely. I mean, Turn-based strategy games were great fun back in the day, as can be attested to the huge interest people have in the re-release of Master of Orion over at GOG, but that was then. This is now! Current gamers have shorter attention-span, and really just want to let out some steam once in a while. I suggest Stardock go the safe route, as other companies do with old IPs, and rei
Lore and background of races and the mood/atmosphere that accompanies each race is pretty important, and while I understand many peoples need to see them fleshed out, I think when I compare to games like Master of Magic it doesnt neccesarily have to be that detailed. MoM was filled to the brim with atmosphere and the races were distinct and unique. This wasnt due to any kind of lore, really, but more to the feel of each race, and the differences in unit types, cities and basic art direction o
Temple of Apshai...
Thanks for the update - looks very interesting. One thing though - I seem to remember you saying at some point that you'd use the Spore approach to make the world ever changing and bigger and bigger. I see no mention of this, and havent seen that in the last 6 months or so either. Did those plans get dropped, or are they part of the modding part which is Beta 5? thanks.
Thanks, Codecritter, appriciate the answer -and, I do remember back from Galciv one, just how much you guys listen to the beta testers, and its , well..awesome! :-)
while the game is turn based, I'm pretty sure graphics could be dynamic, without any trouble - thus, weather changing isnt really any problem. press end turn, and slowly the sunny weather changes into heavy rain...
or "Herald news" running news-bulletin style at the bottom of the screen, once in a while ;-)
So, we're all getting very excited here, sprouting ideas, suggestions, hopes and dreams for our very own dreamgame, and hoping that Stardock will make it come true... Only, as can be evidenced by the screenshots, the game does have quite a few underlying concepts and structures in place already, thus, I assume it can be pretty hard to actually implement or use many of the suggestions we all come with here. I realize it won't be entirely possible to tell us what you are looking
Many strategy games suffer from the overcomplex mind boggling endgame syndrome, where, even if yo uare sure you will win, you have to play 3-4 hours, just to be sure to snuff out every single enemey left somewhere on the map. Master of Orion dealt with this in a very elegant fashion, allowing players to be "voted" winners, when you had a certain amount of power. I'd REALLY Like this kind of option built into this game, so that, in large maps for instance, you wouldnt have to track dow
heh, following me around, Annatar11 ? ;-) Anyawys, thanks for clearing up the pre-order charging thingie... :-) I was so hoping for some beta action before christmas, though ;-)
really? my invoice said I wouldnt be charged until the game was available...but of course, that could mean when the first open beta is there...
You can order it now, and your account won't be charged until the game is shipped. as for cancelling, I'm unsure, but normally pre-orders can be cancelled, yes. Better get a stardock rep to answer that one
In!! that would be all kinds of awesome. And yes, I imagine it would open up for diffrent gameplay types than your normal games. Perhaps with the ability to add a "timer" of sorts, so that you could force a move every 24 hours for instance, so that the rest of the people playing wouldnt have to wait longer than what the timer is set for
As "real" battles are often decided through tactics, I thought flanking would be ideal to put into the game. A bonus for attacking from the side and/or rear would add tremendously to the tactical part of the game. Maybe even add units with an ability to "sneak" and giving them bonusses to flanking. Criticals would work here as well, actually - higher chance for a critical to occur, when attacking from behind and/or sneaking
One thing I always loved about the old Master of Orion games, was the fact that events happeend once in a while. It can be everything from a small, local event, to a world-spanning one, affecting everyone! It gives life to the world and introduced also the element of chance, that can make or break your plans. And, also, make events moddable, atleast small scale ones...
hmm,"give me a sack of gold, or I'll go join the others" kinda event, when a unit levels up enough to get "hero" status? I like it... But, they should be somewhat poor heroes, compared to the "normal" ones, as I see it. I'd still love to be able to hire some truly famous heros with lots of interesting abilities - a few of those, and more of the levelled up kind of heroes
So, an "open beta" is currently scheduled for q2 2009 - will this be the pre-order beta as well, or are we lucky enough to begin the playtesting even earlier?
I am wondering, if I ordered the boxed version and then moved house, would I be able to change the address for my order?
that should be possible - also, if things go all wrong, you can just cancel your pre-order and order it again, once we get closer to the release date. You wont be charged for the game before it's shipped :-)
They took a LOT of the user input from beta testers in galciv 1 and added it to the game. As far as I can remember, the whole idea behind starbases suggested by beta players. and I agree, Stardock is great exactly for the pre-order beta reason. everyone wins!
Also, all the user added content they say will be avaialble makes for high replay value
Greetings! first off, I'm really looking forward to this, its been an anticipated title for many people, for a loong, loong time! now, of course I preordered asap, when I saw it was possible, but, I forgot to use impulse. now, my question is - is it possible to add it to impulse somehow, so that I can see the purchase in there somewhere? I used the same mail adress and all that I use for impulse. Galciv 1 was a blast to beta, and I know this will be the
