I created a tile to go with the new " Altar of Fortune " spell and Murteas has been kind enough to decided to use it in the next Grimoire release. (looks better actually in game, without the rotation it does not look right) Below are some screen caps, please let me know if you have any feedback. You wanted ideas, here I go. All abilities use kenata's ability library internal names or ACP abilities (I like Brave Sir Robin). Previously suggested Military NPC's are listed for completeness (and because I had a better idea on one). I was aiming to give each Fallen race 2 new NPCs, a 3rd teir powerful hero and a 4th tier unit that could act as a general. I am going to use roles rather than making up names, anyone else inspired to write back stories, etc please chime
Just wanted to get the ideas out of my head for the last Level 2 Battlefield spells: Earth > Level 2 > Grasping Hands " The sovereign plunged his hands into the earth as if it was water; an instant later one of the enemy guards let out a yelp of surprise as a fist of stone rose up and grabbed his ankle" Cost 30: Range 4 tiles from caster. Causes stone hands to rise out of the ground and seize a unit preventing it from moving that turn.
I actually was browsing the skill lib during lunch, and I think that combining them might be a mistake long term. Upgraded Weapons is more generic and useful for troops. Skill Library is much heavier in the stat based boosting, and feels more champion / hero to me. In the long run I think having these as 2 libs available to other modders would be the best way to move forward. It will allow for the awesome NPC's that can be create
1) Cool, I will leave you to it then. I trust you do not need my nerd support to come up with interesting groupings of abilities for NPC's. If you are interested, just let me know... "String quests" sound like both a lot of work and fun, go for it. Nice to know you are integrating Artifact, makes life simpler for the multi-mod folks. 2) Well that makes sense, although it does suck as a limitation. Have you considered
@ Victor5: I asked Heavenfall about this earlier in the thread, said that Expanded Faction NPC's would be a sub-mod to ACP (see my mod for Elf Upgraded Weapons). Go ahead and create some, release and see how they do. I also think this is an awesome idea, especially paired with Kenata's new ability lib. @Impinc: The new skeletons are fantastic, just had to say. And you asked for ideas, here are two for a start:</p
Cheers to KEa1979 for working on XML, I have been focusing on Murteas Grimoire stuff lately. Kenata another interesting data point, Elf Upgraded Weapons is sitting at 137 right now; obviously you and Heavenfall are doing good stuff. Out of modding curiosity are you planning on integrating these abilities with your larger Special Abilities library?
Freaking Sweet! Thanks for publishing this as a lib. [e digicons][/e]
Producing software in public large organizations is design by committee in the worst way; as a software designer most of my job is screaming at idiots with the money until one of us gives up. When I do my job right, I win and interfaces that don't make people cry are released. When I lose I try and get a sigma process attached to the project so we can chart the fail rate of their design decisions. Most software that sucks is greenlit by money guys who don't care. One o
Possible Bugs: I have noticed two weird behaviors in recent games: > Elves double list Lite Shield: Whenever I get the Equiipment Tech playing as the Elf faction, 2 copies of Lite Shield appear in the store and unit design. I am assuming this is some weirdness with the InternalName in their Core_Armour.xml but have not cracked it to see. > Wrong sovereigns for factions: When I use a custom sovereign with an EF faction, the other
Well that makes sense, although it also points out the level of balance work tactical is needing. Thanks!
Has anyone else also noticed some weirdness with Slip Defense? I noticed that I got counterattacked a few times after using that. Also is there a way to tell what creatures are immune to certain abilities? had a pack of Umberdroths rip my army to pieces since they were immune to the mace's Haymaker and Bruise...
Good deal, Happy New Year! Hope you and the Mrs. have a good holiday. As for laptops, remember the trick to staying married to a kind, patient, loving woman is to not make her exercise the second virtue too often. [e digicons];)[/e]
I think that creating the goodie hut is a great idea! Maybe change the cost to 5 to reflect that you are only going to get the bonus 1 time? Use a 30 turn cool down to stop the spamming? I think play testing would sort out what would be the right balance of the rewards, as some of those seem a little small if not done in a stream. Maybe change the flavour text: "Makes an offering of mana to the gods of chance, causing them to send their emissary the Blessed Wheel
Also I had an idea for a Cantrip Enchanment spell while on the way for milk this morning. Sorry about the complexity of this one: Enchantment > Level 0 > Blessed Wheel of Fortune The sovereign called out at the height of the feast " Behold what the gods give us today ! " Cost 20: Duration 10 turns. This enchantment causes a great Wheel of Fortune to appear in the cente
If it is the shapes that are causing the issue, maybe try lessened versions of them that only affect one tile at a time? The idea of lesser / standard / greater Battlefield chapters works just fine for me. [e digicons][/e] Start with the fire and water ones, maybe modify them like so: Fire > Level 2 > Wall of Flame " The caster threw a ball of fire that exploded into a wildfire accross Vega's path "</
HAHA! I just got Arcane Missile cast on me in an early turn sovereign duel! (Ran into Ardhor in the wastes). He only cast it once then charged me like normal, but at least it works. So the AI will use tactical spells; making it use them intelligently is something to worry about in the balance phase. [e digicons][/e] Anyone else noticed how the AI is using Arcane Missile?
@ Tekcadman Thanks for the info, you had more luck than I did, but I also had ElementiumChurners (and a couple others) installed and it seems to do odd things sometimes. Will try a couple with just the combat rules mods.
Keep responding while I am typing; thanks the gods for year end server cleaning and the loads of time it gives for things like forums. Multiple folders a la Expanded sounds like a perfect solution to me. I reserve the right to keep thinking up "Chapter" names. You asked for it; I will try and see if I can get anything to happen for art, probably start with some tiles and particle effects. Not going to go for paintings, realistically won't produce anything "not
FOCUS : I like the idea behind this, but I think that the temptation to create "mana batteries" is going to be there if this is a spell (and thus available to all casters). Having it be stat linked also means its power scale increase through the course of the game is different than every other 0 level. Being defenseless by choice is not very dangerous by the time you can produce even decent defenders in a city. This seems more like a special ability t
Ok, now for the new spell ideas. I think the lack of any spells to change the nature of the battlefield in tactical combat is a glaring lack, much like the 0 level spells were. With that in mind I humbly submit my ideas for 4 spells to change that, the idea being one per element and having them be 3rd level spells. Please note the balancing on these will be rather important, getting the AI to use them intelligently will probably have to wait until we get the modding cz
Clarification: I meant using "Chapters" as a way to organize the mod, not as a mechanic for how to have it available in the game. I think your current idea of adding to the existing spellbooks is the way to go for now. It expands the game, is going to be easier to stay compatible as it changes, and the AI is obviously using at least some of the spells (I have not been Arcaned Missled yet, but look forward to it.) I meant more cutting t
Side question: Has anyone tried running D with mods? Do they get immediate crashes to desktop as well?
@ sholland; sorry to hear about the rents deciding to dispose of you childhood; I secreted the gaming stuff underneath boxes of papers & knicknacks from gradeschool so it was spared in the great purge of my moving out. Its now in a closet, I get a chance to paint it about once a blizzard... Heavenfall, this seems like the kind of problem the new mode czar should be sorting out. One new XML tag should be able to clear up this weakness in the troop trainin
Sorry bout that, was not trying to thread hijack, you posted .17 while I was typing my response to your idea in the .16 post. Will give it a try out. In a separate idea; have you thought about how you might have this mod be parts? To go with the book analogy now there is a complete 0 level "Chapter", call it Murteas Cantrips . Is there a new theme you are wanting to work on next? Personally I really want spells that will aff
