My capital has in its immediate vicinity: 3 iron deposits, 2 lost libraries, 1 farmland, 1 orchard, 2 shards. Not all of those were there in the beginning, some of the adventure research reveals new resources. But still, if I hadn't rebuilt and snaked my city that's 36 of the 50 building slots gone, just for resources. After rebuilding it was only 16 slots. The fact that I can game the system tells me it's broken or at least poorly implemented. &n

The buildings boosting production work just fine on resources not connected to the city. About the protection we'll have to see after the 0 day patch, in the current version I had exactly 1 building destroyed by the AI in over 300 turns.
It seems to be bugged, I sometimes see the fireball, but most of the time it doesn't show.
All buildings in a city have to be connected to each other, you can only place a new building next to an existing one. The only exception to this are the buildings placed on resources, they can be built as long as the resource is within a city's sphere of influence. There is also a limit to the number of building slots a city can use, it is set to 50 slots. Resource buildings do not use up any of the building slots... but only as long as they are not next to one of your other city bui
This quest doesn't work for me either, the blacksmith tells me to bring him "a couple" stones for a shield, I have 4 in my inventory but the only dialog that pops up is the "bring me a couple stones and I'll make you a shield".
