Well it's important to note that WoW's release, while it did have serious problems, was actually really good when compared to other MMORPGs. And the game was actaully far more complete and polished then any other MMORPG released, which of course is not saying that much given that most other games tend to be released extremely incomplete. So the standards were quite a bit different there.....getting a C doesn't look so bad when everyone else gets an F. So I'm not sure if I would hold th

Great post, I completely agree.
I'm also looking forward to trying out the creations the modding community comes up with. Some of the total conversion projects planned like Lord of the Rings should be a blast once they are ready.
However in this day and age of PC gaming the masses will not forgive a 'botched' release.
This is patently untrue. Some games with horrid releases go on to be massive successes, the most famous being WoW - their release was a real stinker, but the game was fun and addictive once they solved all the server issues and inital game-breaking bugs. While other games that release without any p
I assumed they had to be and have been parking them in the city I wanted to get the bonus, but it would be good to know for sure. Now that I think about it I don't think the bonus is showing up in the city resource info page as adding to the modifier.

Forget about Elemental being profitable, every penny coming in needs to be thrown back in so that in 6 months you have the game that was promised to us and more. If Elemental is less than we expected, it had better be alot more than we expected within the next year, or Elemental's infl
That explains why reviews are often better than they should be, but it doesn't mean that a trash review is wrong. Most of us beta testers knew it was too early, but there are other forces at work here that have yet to be revealed. The release schedule does not make sense with the information that is publicly available.
I don't believe I ever commented directly on whether a particular review was right or wrong. I wa
Don't let it get you down Brad, these things happen.
It's because the big studios are the ones buying all the advertising which is where the magazines and sites make all their money. As a result game magazines are very hesitant to publish an overly critical review of their flagship games (particularly the ones with big advertising budgets) for fear of the ads being pulled and losing all that revenue. Stardock, on the other hand, is an indie studio with a small advertising budget, so consequently they are less reluctant to be critical. E
With all the sometimes harsh criticism being thrown around this forum (some of which is hysterical hyperbole and whiny rude ranting, some of which is valid and well thought out criticism), I wanted to take the time to thank the Stardock team for all your hard work up to this point. For me, the game has been very stable and low on bugs and I've been having a lot of fun exploring the game world, the tech tree and the other features of the game over the last couple nights. I see
To Nenjin, Your review is honest and spot on. This game is an unfinished release. - The english is terrible. Needs complete editroial review. To Stardock: Please, polish the game more. Right now it feels i have been robbed.
Oh, the irony! ;)
My main gripe is that they released an unfinished product on the day they said the game was coming out. If it wasn't ready, it shouldn't be on Impulse as the final product. Period. They themselves have admitted that what was released to the manufacturer was not ready ... why else would a 0-day patch be necessary? This is sadly endemic to the games industry these days: release it broken and patch it later. Now, t
Are people really running out of space due to the 50 tile limit? I haven't run into this problem yet and my capital was getting pretty big last night. Any way, if it's really an issue, seems like the easiest solution would be just to raise the limit to 60 tiles or something? Might even be somthing that you can easily mod yourself in xml file.
I think I like the feel of it based on first impressions. You're right, it doesn't feel like massive epic empires (at least on the small maps I've tried so far, haven't tried a large map yet). What it feels like is living on the frontier in an inhospitable land where you and your few country men are battling for survival with enemies and monsters all around. Which still qualifies as an epic feel in my book, just not epic in the sense you mean of a massive scale. Lord of the Rings was epic, bu
Heh, that just shows you that people have different tastes. I for one consider the tactical battles one of the features that least interests me. I'll do it for the big war deciding battles, but for everything else I prefer to auto-resolve them as much as possible. Anyway, Brad did confirm in post last night that they have been convinced by the players to add them to MP in a patch. The original plan was not to have them in MP at all, that's why it's not ready for release.
Wait for the release day patch that is supposed to have AI improvements and then give it a whirl. Patch should be out in about half an hour.
Brad said there will be AI improvements included in the patch coming today.
I didn't find the campaign very exciting, but am having a blast playing a game with a random map. You get used to the UI pretty quickly. You are still playing the pre-release version, the big release patch comes out in about 45 minutes which they say improves the campaign, UI, balance, polish, etc. Really I don't think you should give up on the game after only 5 or 10 minutes of playing.
Not sure what the point is of speculating about this, since Brad said in an interview that Atari wanted all sorts of conditions Stardock would never agree to for letting them use the MoM rights, such as Atari owning Stardock's code upon release.
Nice to hear the beta-testers saying there has been a big improvement. Looking forward to seeing the next two weeks worth of improvements when they patch it to 1.1 tomorrow. Hopefully they got a lot more bug fixes, UI improvements and balancing done.
I played for a couple hours last night on Vista 64 with no issues. Your problems could be due to something entirely different, e.g. your video card. Hard to pin these things down.
I don't see a problem with people posting genuine issues (bugs, et al) with the game. I am sure that Stardock doesn't mind either. They may not be aware of some of them. Besides, everyone's money spent the same. If people want to complain, it's their right to. I just prefer it done constructively.
I have no issues with constructive criticism, it's the hysterical and rude
I think people should at least do Stardock the courtesy of waiting until tomorrow and trying out the 1.1 release version before they start complaining. After all Stardock was nice enough to give us acces to the game a day early even though it's not the release build. Consider it a free preview to start learning about how the game works. I don't think it's fair to start judging based on a pre-release version.
Giant mega-game studios like Blizzard with literally billions of dollars in cash can afford to sit on a game for a couple years and keep polishing (ahem Starcraft 2). Indie studio like Stardock on the other hand have bills to pay and have to release on schedule, take their chances with the reviewers, and keep polishing and supporting their games for months and years after release (which incidently the big game corps don't bother to do since they already have your money and don't reall
I pre-order several weeks ago and didn't get an email confirmation either. I emailed stardock and they confirmed I was in their system. Just make sure you write down your confirmation number and you should be fine.
