I figure if the AI has the ability to do something then if a person does it it is not cheese. If they can't and the person does then it is Pretty good rule-of-thumb. I believed this (and still do) at a gut level; to defeat a game or "win", for me, means beating it on its own terms, and not, for example, using cheat codes or game exploits. Some ca

I had a friend who went total veggie (vegan?), and I asked him what he missed the most. I was thinking he'd say a nice big steak, or barbecue, or whatnot, and he said: "cheese". It's very subjective, yeah. I consider spamming a planet with markets cheese. I mean, you gotta have factories, farmland, so on . . . it just blows the believability factor away for me and I don't enjoy the game. Has me worried, too, I've seen a lot of threads that suggest these tactics in order to survi

My newbie game settings: Star Clusters: Random # of Stars: Abundant # of Planets: Abundant # of Habitable Planets: Common Difficulty: Challenging Number of Races: Random (4 major appeared: Drengu, Tholians, Yor, Korx) Galaxy Size: Huge/Immense (Largest) Technological Victory disabled It's sad to hear starbases are, if not worthless, very underpowered in the later stages of the game. Heh, without doing my research on the Wonder, I went ahead and built the Temple of Righteousness. Then I found out it was worthless, since I was the only Good-aligned civilization left. The damn Yor, they never helped us at all, were greedy and selfish, and even after an alliance they started putting influence spacestations around my homeworld! After I cut ties to them the other evil civ's attacked them - justifiably so, I thought, since they were planting those stations everywhere - a

Well, graphics wise, I love the game for its strategy (infrastructure, sciences, economics, etc). If better graphics came at the price of crashes or affected gameplay, no thanks. If not, sure, nicer battle graphics would always be welcome. They remind me a lot of a game I played and loved, Star Control. Related: I'd sure like more strategy options. I recently had a battle where two large fleets w

The option to "Launch Ship" from either the "Breaking News" window, or a checkbox when ordering it constructed. When upgrading ships, they keep all the installed modules (weaponry, defense, modules, etc) by default. Have an option to globally clear them, maybe. More detailed resource gathering on planets somehow; perhaps requirement of constructing mining facilities. Maybe make certain rare minerals required to build specific units. Trade: Add specific resources that can be h

Ah, good, a Quick Noob Questions thread! Handy since I'm a Noob and like quick answers My questions are: 1. Does Terraforming (or later advances) allow you to transform & colonize uninhabitable planets? I mean, that's what terraforming is supposed to do . . . . . and that reference to the Genesis machine would seem to support that. Playing in a tiny or small galaxy, it would seem t
