1. Again - upgrade to the latest patch - its fixed. 2. Its possible for a single ship to be defined as a fleet for the AI. There may have been more ships in with it before. Unusual but it happens. SBs are always counted as fleets for battles. Don't know why your 2 fleet battle didn't show. Unless it was such a walk-over the AI interpreted it as no defense. 3. Upgrade to latest patch - I saw this in betas but not since 1.61 patch 4. when you focus, the focus area does not

Not hero units. No real characters, except as national leaders/personalities. Just like DL. Complete campaign set of scenarios similar to DL, but frankly, most folks play in sandbox mode. Oh, your MetaVerse presence is referred to as a "character", but that's really just a way for players to have separate styles of play which recieve separate progress in the metaVerse, if they wish. drrider

Simply, is the third world war a possiblity? Yes, son, it is. So is an asteroid on a collison course for the planet. We need to continue to improve our watchfulness for both. For the next 20 years or so, I'd say the probabilities are about equal, but both are such catastrophic events that they need to be reasonably provisioned against. So study history, and REAL science, and try to pay attention world events and economics and to what motivates people

What does "creativity" do in terms of game mechanics? I've bought it a few times and never noticed much of an effect, so I quit. I usually max research and econ. . I believe it lets you gain the next tech up the ladder (when you are researching a tech and get it and then the next one as well). No. Creativity basically gives you random "bursts" of extra tp's that are entirely in the background, not

1. & 2. - update to the latest patch. Its fixed. 3. Contact [email protected]. Sounds like a problem peculiar to your sound setup; hasn't been reported in forums that I have seen. 4. Same as #3. Can't really tell what you are trying to describe here, sorry, but you should get a complete screen with the robot telling you what you just finished and (trying to) making a "joke". 5. This is known and normal. It takes about 2 turn cycles after a reload for the game engine to re-pr

Go to your Options page for the game and see what battle options are selected. I believe the defaults only bring up the Combat Viewer when there is a fleet on fleet engagement, but you can set it down to where it will annoyingly interrupt you every time a pirate polishes off an unarmed work boat. drrider

Reply #14 Oh, I need help too....there are some excellent books out there, but one i remember really enjoying was about space invaders attacking medieval earth and getting creamed by the knights. It was fun and funny and a real testament to the human spirit. If i remembered the name i'd try and buy it as a used book....its worth reading every 5 or ten years. Reading about aliens getting nailed by arrows and axes, it was quite enjoyable. I should post this is the ge

One of the top ones for me was Battlefield Earth (nothing like that piece of garbage that John Trivolta was in) and Rama. But there are a lot of good Sci-fi out there. My God! How can anyone even mention these two books in the same breath? That's like saying your great dining experiences were Top of the Mark in San Francisco, and the PBnJ that your brother dropped on the school playground and didn't want any more. <img src="http://images.stard

Man, I'm sorry. I thought I had replied before, but I'm doing my browsing after night shifts this week, and I apparantly never sent it in. On top of that, I just addressed all your points again, in about 5-600 words...and blew it away again, stupidly. I gotta go sleep, but here's the short version: Few of the changes directly address of your points of dissatisfaction, in the ways you envisioned , but many of them add to the experience in the general areas that bother

It's 3 months after we heard that it's going to take "a little longer" to get GC2 Gold to the European retail stores. 3 months is quite a long time in this fast-paced business, and long enough to ask will it ever come (or does it still make sense to release a European retail version at all, in business terms)? Meanwhile the second GC2 add-on has been announced, which no doubt will also not appear in European retail stores, neither stand-alone nor in "platinum" (or

If you do a clean install of the Gold Edition, with all latest patches, the DL campaign shows up in the Campaign menu of the DA interface. Without changing 'Chapters' in the launcher. Unfortunately, I do not know whether this change was occasioned by Gold Edition, or by the latest patches, as I had done both before I noticed the entry. I DO know that is you just install DA as an expansion disk, there is no way to play the original campaign from the DA engine. I tried for a lo

What about the Planet Quality bonus? Is it worth the 3-8 points? I usually take the 3-point version, and find it works decently. At the very least, it makes all those size-4 planets that the Torians keep 'giving' me suck a little bit less. The (I think) overlooked thing about the 10% PQ bonus is that since most races start with a PQ 10 homeworld, the 10% bonus takes the homeworld to 11. This triggers the permanent 10% planetary Morale bonus for the

Plus there's "Bugs, Mr. Rico, Zillions of 'em!" (I've always loved how much Heinlein conveyed about the spirit and discipline of the MI with that one sentence. The guy is being overrun by a sea of ugly bugs, and it isn't "Help! Bugs!" and it isn't "Boss! Bugs!", and it isn't even "Bugs, Lieutenant, Bugs!" - it's "Bugs, Mr. Rico , zillions of 'em!" OK, a little betrayed excitement in that last part...but with proper form of address.) drrider

1) All Prod / Research bonus' work the same way in terms of payment. If it is a building on-planet, you pay full price for the points it generates / adds. (This includes Omega Research Center, and includes the power plants and RCC.) If the bonus is generated from some off-planet or intangible source, like a Galactic Resource SB, or a racial ability, you pay 1/2 price for the additional prod / tech points. 2) 99+% certain that you can only build 1 power plant and/or 1 RCC on a

dystopic, I wish you luck with Lewis (he's probably in the family somewhere, and he deserves all praise for his other literary achievements), but the Space Trilogy is NOT in the same realm of brilliance as Narnia. I almost never put a book down once started, but I could only get about half-way through the second one. He actually wrote these some years before TLTWATW; he was not mature as a writer of fiction, and it shows. Unfortunately, the vast success of the Narnia books ma

(Citizen)SkippioAugust 15, 2007 21:37:46Reply #27 Ok, now that we seem to be talking about all space based TV shows, my question now is where does Buck Rogers fit in? That was early 80's right? The wardrobe is from Star Trek, with lots of spandex, but their fighters sort of sounded like those from Battlestar. And they had stargates (or whatever they called em)too! I forgot, he is after this time, so he is still floating around frozen in his ship while thi

All time favorite (I make no apologies, they were fun and fueled many youthful adventure dreams): A tie! - between Tarzan of the Apes (I guess anthropology fiction counts as science fiction) , and Galactic Patrol . Followed, I think, by White Dragon Greatest impact: Probably Starship Troopers , closely followed by Stranger in a Strange Land . drrider
