Yeah obviously the cost of Infusing a hero with the power of Immortality would be rather high. There is nothing there that cannot be balanced with the right costs.

Well the mountain pushing was just an example of the level of strenght they could reach.. How about a more practical example. A hero with strength great enough to kill a dragon with just a hit or two. And Immortality is not a far out idea at all. As I said in my second part, it could simply be on a timer. Your hero dies in battle and you just have to wait say 5 or 10 turns for him to rematerialize in your capital. In Dominions 3 Immortality
I would not support a Cap on the number of heroes that could be raised in that fashion. But that said it could be set to a scaled system where say for the first unit to become a hero he would have to gain 4000 experience (arbitray number) and the second would have to reach 5000, the third 6000, the fourth 7000 and so on. So there would be no hard cap to the number but after a while it would be inpractical to expect anymore to reach that newly required level.
Actualy I take back what I said about Immortality being a one shot deal. Immortality could be on a timer where if a hero died you had to wait a certain number of turns for him to reconstitute himself in your fortress. Increasing his Immortality could just decrease that time you have to wait.
Ok in a recent artical I read about Elemental it stated that you could infuse your power into your heroes. How about giving us several options for pouring your power into heroes. Things like Granting them: Imortality Strength Increased Defensive or Attack skill Immunity or resistance to poison, fire or whatever Magic resistance Speed Flight Invulnerabiltiy Health Regeneration Fear Au
Your forgeting Fairy Trod for Nature mage's , Cloud Trapeezing for Air mage's , Astral Gateways for mage's to take others with them, Shortcuts through the lands of the Dead for Death mage's emerging back in the land of the living at their destination nearly instantly. Earth Mage's could meld with the land and re-emerge at their destination, Fire mage's could do some crap like in Hary potter with the fireplace's hehe. Blah blah blah. The more options the better.
Yes, as a Dom3 Player like WraithLord I would definitly like to see Elemental Incoporate PBEM into the game. In Dom3 we have the player community namely Llamabeast to thank for PBEM with his llamaserver.net , but it would be great if StarDock could come up with a PBEM server itself to go with the game. Or at least some system where a player takes their turn submits it and it sends it to the StarDock Elemental server to await all other players turns before generating the next turn.
