Open the gate...? That would be wonderful, but how do you open it? Never mind - it's triggered by 'controlling the Fire Shard' on the other side of the gate. Oddly, building a shrine isn't enough to count as 'controlling' it - you have to approach from a beach landing to open the gate - but I was easily able to complete the campaign from here. ...Huh, I was expecting a more formidable boss. Though I suppose anything would h

Landing troops is impossible in the current version of the game. If you move your units onto the water where a boat is, then the boat will just leave them behind. (Unless I need an army space for the boat? That could work...) As for teleporting over, that would be nice, but I don't know if I have that spell in my spellbook. How would one go about teleporting? EDIT: Looks like I *did* need a space for the boat. Tch. Okay, thanks, that was the prod I needed. I just ho
Hi, To get a feel for the pacing in WoM, I decided to start out with the single-player campaign, and I found I couldn't progress beyond the Allies for Altar segment. I greeted all four factions - Pariden declined to supply troops, but I'm not worried as I can easily produce far superior troops myself - and now the campaign has stalled. I can't head East, that wierd gate blocks expansion to that juicy Fire shard... I have no idea what t
If this has already been done, I could learn a great deal from your work Harpo. Could I entice you into providing a link?
True, true. I'm using an equal distribution of lava, ice and terran planets in this early revision and I suppose I can always tweak things later (or possibly manually ensure that the number of mines is balanced if I can figure out how). Getting the first spiral is the trick; the beauty of this kind of symmetrical design is it will always be balanced. I'm leaning towards a system for each player, purely because it will be easier to organise the layout.
Ahhh. That is valuable information. Thank you so much - one wonders why these items were not added to the editor in the first place. Okay. I have my first spiral up and ready, just waiting for the detail in the planets. What would be balanced resource distribution? 1:1 ratio of Crystal to Metal? Or should there be more metal than crystal or vice versa? Thanks for putting up with my incessant questions, by the way.
Great - what is the code for that item? In GalaxyForge itself the Pirate gauss cannon is unlisted; I just get the TEC cannon up.
Magnificent! One other question. Can I manually add pirate Gauss cannon to these planets?
No, I'm thinking static defences. What part of the map code should I try to edit? Last time I attempted something like this I broke the map. EDIT: Static defences including ships of course. But once it's there, the ships just wait for the Player to attack. So, the first planet in the chain might have light scouts; by the time the last in the chain is reached there is a huge fleet and massive fortifications (and that's before you see the Pirate base)... Also considering adding a huge p
May not... Why is this? I'm prepared to compromise and give the planets and fortifications to a neutral faction (can this be done at least?) However there would be ablation over time as the Pirate base (having its own link to the star for balance) would send pirates to the players which would come into conflict with the inhabitants of the planets (which is why my first choice is the pirates). EDIT: Sorry, it is then. How would I go about doing this? Dabbled in the past but I nev
I've had an idea for a map which goes something like this. Each player starts at the end of a chain of planets leading to the local star (the size of the chain and whether they lead to the same star can be tweaked). The first player who reaches the local star has a small advantage, so that keeps the pressure on. However - and here we have the twist - every single planet in the chain is heavily populated by Pirates. And also (this is important) the planets themselves become inc
Hmm... Your best bet would probably be to contact Stardock Support. I forget the Email, but it's not exactly a secret; just Google it.
No, concerning my own suggestions. See above... I don't really work with game balance, ever. Too many balls in the air all at once. Impossible to see where everything will land. In general the only real unit of cost is the second; resources/sec are just a framework - governed by available resource extraction points and research completed (which can also be expressed in terms of time, even the station setup costs and research required) so as you can see the slow pace of play is ve
It's been a few days now... Some kind of feedback (positive or negative) would be most welcome. I reckon this should address most of the major issues, however, and while I don't wish to seem rude having my efforts ignored is somewhat frustrating. Doesn't anyone out there have anything to say about this...?
There is a simple solution to the mine problem. 1. Restrict minelaying to contruction frigates and certain capships. This will force mines to be used defensively for the most part. 2. Force mines to be autoplaced, or rather snap-to. Snap-to phase lane, planet, facilities etc. Have a minefield be one object that covers an area. Give the player control over the size and shape of the field, with cost scaled to suit. EDIT: This would simplify minelaying placement as well, as a cor
I agree; not everyone does. That is the whole point, really.
...Well, that depends. As a company, Stardock has responsibilities. You have to Get It Right, or people might get mad. It sucks, but that's just how capitalism operates. Ultimately there are a lot of rude people out there and if you give 'em a molehill they'll build you a mountain, so it makes sense in the long run to cover your backs against situations like these. Just my two coppers, naturally, yet it would probably serve you well to address these issues.
Zubaz, you're kinda missing the point... People could see "Pre-Order" and think they'll be charged on release date. People could be paranoid or plain anti-beta. ParagonFury is right, unfortunately, to suggest there is plenty of room for clarification - remember, Stardock isn't just a vibrant community... It's also a store. Edit: Looked into this issue a bit more deeply... Woah. You're treading on a few people's toes with this one, which is bad for business. I'd think about clearer com
