Well, as someone who just bought it on sale, here's my perspective. For months I've watched this game. In fact it inspired me to re-purchase Gal Civ 2 with all expansions and play the heck out of it. I always wanted to buy Gal Civ 3 but found the price too steep for my budget, so I waited. Then the sale, I'm in! So the way I see it, you guys got to play way earlier than me. And as we all know, that has value. People always a

I always thought the numbers were off also. I mean, 1 BILLION soldiers fighting against the ENTIRE population of a plant, men, women, and children? All effectives? Granted population is the population actually paying taxes, and maybe not the whole pop. I'd do it like this: some percentage of the population are soldiers. Percentage can vary based on tech, race, improvements, etc. So maybe in 10 billion 10% or 1 billion count as soldiers. Of course the advantage fact

This is where sensors help, if your sens range is less than the attacker's speed you will not see the fleet coming until they get to your planet. I find also that zooming out all the way (until you get to the symbols) helps me spot enemy fleets coming in. But the bottom line is that you have to run the intercepts yourself.

The range is from ANY planet you own, or starbase. Often as your empire expands you can go anywhere on the map for that reason. Make sure you toggle "show range for ships" on in the mini-map, then when you select a ship you can see its range. On the main map range limits show up as a thin grey line. If a target is out of r

Thelron, are you sure? I've never had a starbase fight first when I had other ships on the same space. My ships have always gone first, in all versions I've played. The guard and sentry modes I've found no use for, because it doesn't seem like they work. I think if you keep your ships on the bases, they'll defend them until they (ships) are gone. <br/

I'm hardly an expert on the game, but I think a discussion of population should not focus only on taxes vs morale. Population also give you influence, which increases income from tourism. I don't have a good feel for how much income one gets through tourism for a given population/influence, but whatever the amount it should be factored into the equation. Influence also gets you votes in the UP, which can be very powerful. Does anyone stay in Empire to avoid the need t
